Corleone Mafia War – 1956 – 1963

Post by aleksandrored »

Hello guys, the other day I was reading about Corleone's people, and I found several events about Corelone's war in the 50s and 60s, I tried to create this mini project based on that, any suggestion, information and criticism is very welcome.

I tried to summarize the events and if anything is really strange it's because I had to translate the document from Italian to Portuguese for me to understand, and then translate it into English.

Corleone Mafia War – 1956 – 1963

Conflicts of interest began to arise between Corleone's mob boss Michelle Navarra and her Underboss Luciano Leggio in 1956, due to Leggio's greed, Navarra ordered Leggio killed in 1958, the coup failed, and months later Leggio ordered the assassination of Navarre, and in the years that followed this led to an internal war that lasted from 1958-1963.

1956 – Luciano Leggio opened a herding company in 1956, in the district of “Piano di Scala”, for raising sheep and cattle, it was used to cover up the clandestine slaughter of stolen cattle, and later launch them in the Palermo market, it soon became the center of operations for the Corleone family.

1957- Leggio initiated a series of vandalism actions against the property of Vintaloro Ângelo, Lieutenant of Navarre, in order to induce him to lose interest in his lands, so that Leggio could build a dam there, Navarre had previously opposed to Leggio because the dam would damage the lands of Vintaloro.

April 5, 1957 – Disappearance of Antonino Governali and Giovanni Trombattura (mediator between the Leggio and Navarra factions).

June 24, 1958 – Michelle Navarra orders Luciano Leggio to be killed, at 07 in the morning several armed men shot at Leggio Luciano, Leggio Francesco, Leggio Leoluca and Roffino Giuseppe, the blow failed and Luciano Leggio left with scratches.

August 2, 1958 – In retaliation, Michelle Navarra and Giovanni Russo (innocent victim) were killed by order of Luciano Leggio.

September 6, 1958 - Marino Marco, Marino Giovanni and Maiuri Pietro, from the Navarre faction, exchanged fire with Leggio's group and were murdered, and Roffino Giuseppe and Provenzano Bernardo, from the Leggio faction, were wounded.

October 13, 1958
- Lo Bue Carmelo, of the Navarro faction, was assassinated.

February 11, 1961 - Cortimiglia Vincenzo, Navarre faction, was assassinated, but in the exchange of fire he managed to kill Provenzano Salvatore, who was from Leggio's group.

July 3, 1962 - Riina Paolo was murdered, had no mob connections, but had witnessed Cortimiglia's murder.

May 10, 1963 – Failed attempt on the life of Streva Francesco Paolo, Navarre faction.

September 10, 1963 - Streva Francesco Paolo was murdered along with his faithful friends Pomilla Biagio and Piraino Antonino.

Other victims:
Listi Vincenzo, faction, Navarre, disappeared;
Delo Giovanni, faction, Navarre, disappeared;
Fernando Trombadori, Navarre faction, disappeared;
Giovanni Provenzano,, Leggio faction, Assassinated;
Sottile Salvatore, Leggio faction, disappeared;
Cammarata Salvatore, Leggio faction, Assassinated

By the end of 1963, the Navarrra faction was virtually gone, with most members dead or missing, so the Leggio Faction effectively took over the Corleone Mafia.
