Yeah they were out of control. They tried to kill the Boss's son, they refused to kick up to two successive Bosses, they were doing hits without permission and then they killed a made guy (Bocchino) without permission. Stanfa was in the right to out a hit on them. How much was he gonna take?

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

What were their age range during all of this? And who backed them because you’ll need backing if you’re going up against a crime family

Late 20s for most of them. They had some support from their incarcerated relatives like Sal Merlino and Joe Ciancaglini Sr.

Thanks, crazy how weakened the Philly Mob became after Scarfo that they let these young Turks do these things in their own turf

I always liked Merlino's attitude towards money. It's well documented that he never really had rackets or a real hustle but has managed to live really well off of people paying him for simply existing. I'm not even trying to make a joke. That takes a lot of balls and a good amount of charisma. All of the other bosses came up earning, either big or just regularly piecing hustles together at least, even Gotti to a small degree, and worked themselves up to where they were just collecting money because they were the boss...Merlino seems to have lived like that his entire life

The funniest shit ever was in the Prevete book, Ron saying that Joey had the network and ability to get a real sportsbook going, but would rather just tax existing book makers and lay into other ones, collect when winning and not pay when losing. It kind of makes sense, who goes into that life to really work, anyway?

Besides the prison stints and attempts on his life, Merlino's had a pretty charmed existence. One of the most successful Boss runs not only for length but also because for someone in that life he probably feels zero stress

Joey was a sociopathic thief from jump with no conscience, set up a armored truck heist at 27 years old for $352,000,Then robbed his partner Stephen Rinaldi of his share which was half ... Joey Never stopped robbing people and still doing it unfuckingbelievable.

Charmed is right. By all rights, Merlino should be dead or doing life in prison.
All roads lead to New York.

If I remember right they flipped on Merlino after he screwed them on their cut. He ended up doing some years in prison.

Yeah he did only a few years in prison for that. Which you would think he would have done more. I guess it was more lenient back then ?
