Re: John Pennisi: The Tim Tebow of the Mafia
Yeah that's a really fucked up story, but do you think he's the same guy now as he was at 17? I know this could plant the seeds to turn political and I'm not trying to do that, but I think there are very few instances where it's right and fair to define somebody for life by the worst mistake they've ever made.
It'd be one thing if Pennisi glorified the incident, or lied about it and spun it to make it sound like self defense or something more 'honorable', or tried tying it into the street or 'the life' - but he hasn't. He's done the opposite of that basically, and it's pretty clear he's ashamed and not proud of what happened.

It wasn't in "the life" at the time. Here's something from case text. The link for it is in the Hootie thread.

OK, 20 then ...lol. Is there really a big difference between 17 and 20? That's still damn near a kid and the point still stands.mafiastudent wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 8:09 pmHe wasn't 17. I know 20 years old in 1989 is definitely a more mature 20 years old than what it is today... but still, 17 or 20 it's the same difference.
There's a lot of scumbags out there who are doing shows and trying to capitalize on their glory days. Even if you paint them all with the same brush, Pennisi ranks pretty low on the scumbag ladder compared to the rest.
No one is on here saying the guy's a saint but he's paid his debt for the situation from when he was a kid, and again - he never has spun it or glorified it. As far as the girl goes - chalk it up with the government. They've given passes to people and have protected people who've done a lot worse in the interest of making a case.

Re: John Pennisi: The Tim Tebow of the Mafia
Well, you're correct in that he's paid his debt. However, he's also complained about how he was only supposed to get 8 years but ended up doing the 17 because of the change in law. He's not going to glorify it because it wasn't mob-related. In addition, if you're remorseful about something, after you say, it was a tragic misunderstanding, the next thing out of your mouth wouldn't be ...it was hard on me because I had to leave my two year old son. That really doesn't show respect to the family but maybe he was just nervous in that interview and that's the only thing that popped in his head.newera_212 wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 8:31 pmOK, 20 then ...lol. I'm not sure what girl you're talking about. If you're talking about the woman who he punched in the face, then I would have to say that pushing that off on the government doesn't absolve him from his abuse and his lack of talking about that as he dragged her through the mud in however many episodes he told the story.

We are talking about the murder of an innocent kid who was not a street guy over jealousy. A kid who was buried by his parents. How can anyone not see how horrendous that is or even defend him. You can say he was only 20. However what choices in life did he make as a middle aged man. He now has a blog and podcast where he bashes non public figures in a very passive aggressive way. It's all actually quite sick. He's probably not as demonic and shameless as the Albanian guy or Borelllo. But is that where the bar of decency is at this point.
Re: John Pennisi: The Tim Tebow of the Mafia
Life or no life, here. You're narrowing John down to a specific handful of seconds in an interview. I haven't even committed any crimes, but if I were to hypothetically go away for 5 years I'd undoubtedly be torn up by my father's age - and I haven't even done anything to hurt anyone. That doesn't seem so abnormal to me.mafiastudent wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 8:44 pmWell, you're correct in that he's paid his debt. The man did 17 years. It seems natural to have a lower sentence than higher. From the angle I viewed it, he seemed disappointed in the fact that work release was taken away, but I'm not sure I've heard him actually dwell on the fact that he had to do the full 17 years. Everything I heard demonstrated that he simply served his time as he was expected to.

The guy spent almost 20 years in jail and he at least appears to come off with a great deal of remorse over the situation. He’s never tried to make it seem like it was over some street shit or that he was putting in work.ShockTroop wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 9:22 pm We are talking about the murder of an innocent kid who was not a street guy over jealousy. And LOL at the “passive aggressive bashing of non public figures.” You mean mobsters? Is that who you are upset John is talking about? Are you seriously clutching your pearls over an informant talking about his former coworkers? His YouTube show averages less than 5k viewers. I can assure you that Pennisi and LaVecchia aren’t rolling around in money. Hell it probably costs them money to do the show.

Re: John Pennisi: The Tim Tebow of the Mafia
Thank you for the kind words. It's appreciated and I'm even further humbled. That being said, I'm more of a listener than a talker and if I went on I'd start asking Pennisi where his family is from and start talking recipes, Tom would be sitting there with a WTF look. I know my limitations. But B. and Antiliar, they would come up with great questions on the spot, have a very interesting back and forth and Tom/John/listeners would even learn a few things. Not that they're going to teach John anything about the life as an amico nos, but they'll ask questions and make connections that John might not have noticed when he was in it. I very strongly believe that those conversations would be amazing, educational and informative.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 10:05 pm@MBA guy; And this guy? Funny as fuck. Maybe thats a: forum problem.......... podcast solution?
Just make sure the guy doesnt have a hand up his arse with a Chris Christie voice out top. These two used to run a Ventriloquist gig in Vegas before the Ant upped his cut.
Tom, PLEASE consider them. If you want, I'll do a conference call and introduce you guys and you'll see what I mean.

There's nothing stopping you from asking them. Feel free to aska way, I'm sure he would answer.Chris Christie wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 6:35 amThank you for the kind words. Pennisi is a very amicable guy, as long as you keep it classy. He responded to me in like 10 minutes on the gram and I asked a bunch of silly questions.....
You should go ahead and pitch it to them....

Sure, hey John, I make Napolitan ah beetz but Sicilian is the best. Nice thick crust, goes good with some dago red. Prove me wrong. Tom's a farmer from Jersey and can weigh in. Fuck the mob shit, let's have a fricken food-off. If you guys can teach me anything and that's a big if, I'll say thank you. I make Trapanese braciole but Mr. DiLeonardo gave me his family on his mother's side (Messinese) recipe which they call Cudinnu. It's high noon in tombstone, compaesani, let's mannagiu.Etna wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 6:57 amThere's nothing stopping you from asking them. Pennisi sees this he'll say "I'm used to people calling me a rat or a brokester but never people challenging me to Ital food. These people are crazy." Or he'll say, "Oh, this motherfucker is gonna get it!" Welcome to the forum.
