Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
I've read about this story but unfortunately I don't know much about John Canzoneri. Maybe B. or Antiliar know more about him, sorry. However I have a photo of Dragna & Roselli's arrest from a newspaper article

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
My understanding is that Rosselli previously lived in Chicago in the ‘20s before moving to CA, but wasn’t made in Chicago of course.

Thanks Fab. It would be quite interesting to find out regarding Canzoneris stature or membership, and it would be also interesting to know if John had any connection to Sam "Sammy" Canzoneri who in turn was one of the Outfit's top players in the dope trade during the 1970s and was allegedly killed because of it during the early or mid 1980s i think...i dont remember but it is possible that PolackTony once made some work on it but im not sure...

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
I never posted anything on Sam Canzoneri, though at one point you stated that he was a relative of John Canzoneri of LA. That doesn’t seem to be the case, at least not likely close relatives. Salvatore “Sammy” Canzoneri, former Chicago cop, pizza entrepreneur, and drug trafficker, was shot to death in his Highland Park, IL home in 1989 (there seems to have been some serious domestic violence issues between him and his wife, but I don’t think that police ever charged her with the murder). He was born 1928 in Chicago to Angelo Canzoneri of Palazzo Adriano and Mary Cordaro, born in NYC to parents from Menfi, Agrigento province. Former boxer and Bonnano Capo Tony Canzoneri was also from Palazzo Adriano, as were the Chicago DeJohn/DiGiovannis. I’m not sure which Giovanni Canzoneri was the guy from the LA family, but there was one in LA from Prizzi and another from Corleone (incidentally, there were Canzoneris in Chicago from Prizzi as well, but I don’t see any connection to Sam). Even if a direct blood relation wasn’t there between Sam and John Canzoneri, it’s always possible that they were part of a wider “Corleonesi” network with ties to the West Coast (it may not mean anything more substantial, but I note that Sam Canzoneri and his wife were married in Beverly Hills), as B has discussed in his current Ciro Gallo thread.Villain wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 12:07 pmThats right and I agree.PolackTony wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 11:29 am My understanding is that Rosselli previously lived in Chicago in the ‘20s before moving to CA, but wasn’t made in Chicago of course.

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
I'm curious if these Canzoneris connect to Tony of the Bonanno family. As mentioned in the Ciro Gallo thread, they were from Palazzo Adriano and there was a colony from Palazzo in Chicago.
Back to Detroit/LA, there is a report about how Joe Adamo hid out in Detroit when he had a problem with Tony Mirabile. The Adamos were from Alcamo like Mirabile.
Leo Dia was another Alcamese related to the Mirabiles so he may have had Detroit ties.
With Chicago/LA, Phil Bacino reportedly associated with Mirabile and other California figures but I've never seen anything substantial about the relationship. His captain LaPorte was in with all of these people so that is probably part of it.

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
It is possible that Chicago's Sammy Canzoneri was also part of the so-called Pizza Connection with Galante and later Catalano...

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
Good info... this is the first I've heard of the Chicago Canzoneris. Interesting too that the early Chicago Catalano was from Ciminna like Sal.

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
Same, good infos bud. Speaking of Detroit & Pizza Connection a friend of mine reported to me that the Salvatore Evola indicted with Badalamenti, Catalano & co. was probably the son of Detroit member Salvatore Evola (page 213 in the FBN book).B. wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 6:49 pmGood info... this is the first I've heard of the Chicago Canzoneris. Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
Sorry Tony, saw you said the same thing about Canzoneri in your post. Can count on you to mention the hometown ties.
Adding to Joe Adamo, he previously lived in Detroit in the mid-late 1930s where he married, then fled there for a time later.
Didn't Bompensiero live in Detroit for a while when he was on the lam?

Related to this subject, something very curious is there is a 1948 plane manifest that shows Paul and Tony Mirabile, Momo Adamo, and Marco Impastato all visited Italy together at the same time. All of them were from Alcamo and the latter three were made members. Anyone know what was going on in Alcamo at the time?

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
Bompensiero definitely lived in Detroit for a while when he was being looked at for a California murder.
Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
Any online resources on the 1990s San Diego crew of the Detroit family? Never really seen anything on it and interested in a run down? B? You usually got the goods.
Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
They weren't an actual crew of made guys, just people related to certain Detroit members like John Priziola. Salvatore Vitale, who lived in San Diego and married one of the Matrangas and who was associated with Detroit, was actually the underboss of the Partinico borgata in Sicily.
John Canzoneri's ancestry was from Corleone, so probably not related to the others.
Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
Thanks for the confirmation Anti because previously I also had him as having roots from Corleone but I wasnt 100% sure. So John was with the LA fam right? Possibly a Dragna/Corleone companion?

Re: Los Angeles/Detroit connections
So the San Diego Matranga crew was actually a Detroit crew, and not a LA family crew?
I was listening to the Winter of Frank Machine audiobook a few weeks back, where the main character says, I paraphrase, "first NY used to run us, then Chicago, now Detroit". Not sure what kind of research Don Winslow did before writing the book but that seems to match what I've read here.

Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”
