This is not incredibly unusual in the Detroit area. In 1988 Joseph Giacalone(Jackie's cousin and Anthony Giacalone's son) got $40 million from the city of Detroit for some land and equipment that they owned in order to make way for an add on to the Chrysler plant that was next to it. But subsequent auditing showed it was all worth less than $2 million. So a $38 million profit in 1988 dollars. And there was only a passing mention that Joseph Giacalone was mobbed up. I mean it's assumed that Hoffa was taken away in Joseph's car in 1975, and that didn't even enter into any of the articles about this massive waste of tax payer money. But that's what Detroit is like when it comes to mob stuff. I used to share information with a former Detroit Free Press journalist and he told me about specific times when he was told to drop Jack Tocco's name from stories because the editor didn't deem it relevant.

That’s interesting. Chicago basically had a cottage industry within local journalism covering mob stories. Even in more recent years we have Chuck Goudie and the “I-Team” harassing DiFronzo etc.

Incidentally, I believe that Goudie is originally from Detroit.

You hit the nail on the head. Couldn’t have said it any better. Terrible tragedy...and the family has to watch this daily. Reminiscent of some of the Kennedy family tragedies. Many will say it’s Karma for all the lives they’ve harmed over decades. At the end of the day, he is still human who has dedicated his life to helping care for his daughter. A real shame.

Jesus... this could have been avoided if they hadnt forgotten a fuckin EPIPEN? if thats the case, the settlement amount is definitely warranted to say the least

also I know its totally different but this isnt the first Detroit mob family to get double digit millions from the health care system. Didnt another Detroit guy have a medical billing company or something that he sold to a healthcare system network for 8 figures?

"Chicago Tony" LaPiana, the reputed Detroit mob underboss, sold his U.S Health & Life Insurance Co. to Ascension Health for a GINORMOUS PAYDAY a few years back. Ascension is backed by the Catholic Church. The whole shady seal got ZERO scrutiny from the media (except for me obviously lol), per usual in Detroit.
