Joseph Mundo’s father was indeed Simone “Sam” Mundo, and as you noted his mother was Angelina Adduci, sister of Jimmy Adduci. Simone Mundo was born in Alessandria del Carretto, Cosenza, Calabria, the same town the Adducis came from. These Mundos lived in the Taylor St Patch area, of course. This Sam Mundo I believe died 1937.

Now the Sam Mundo in Calumet City I believe was a completely different Simone “Sammy” Mundo, who lived between Cal City and Hammond, IN (just over the state line). This guy died 1961. It’s possible that he had some relation to the other Simone Mundo, as he was also from Cosenza.

BTW, just in case you were wondering, the Rose Pellegrino who was married to Joe Mundo was not related to the Genovese Pellegrinos at all. She was Sicilian and her family was from Marsala, which of course makes me wonder if they had any links to the Genna crew. Given that Joe Mundo grew up by Taylor St, that’s something to think about. But this Rose Pellegrino was born in NW Indiana, which then maybe also further goes to suggest that the Taylor St Mundos and the Cal City/Hammond Mundos were connected.

Interestingly, after Joe Mundo died in 1944, Rose Pellegrino married Ignatius Spacchesi/“Ned Bakes”. While tangential to the original topic, I’ve wondered if Bakes’s family were Mafiosi, given that they were from Termini Imerese, where so many Chicago Men of Honor originated.

Correction -- Rose Mary Pellegrino was actually born near South Bend, not NW Indy.

Tried to see if August Abate was related to Frank Abbate/Alo/Agrusa who attended the 1928 Cleveland meeting alongside Bacino, as Abbate also operated in the Cal City / Indiana area, but looks like these Abates always used the spelling with one "b". Couldn't trace his father Sam Abate. Still could be a connection, just didn't see anything obvious.

Cavita -- Lennert has some Triolos involved in early Rockford. Do you know about them?

Yes, the Triolo's were fringe players early on and there were also Triola's as well. Originally I had confused the two but they are separate.

Are they from Ribera? From what I could see the Triolos in Rockford are def from Agrigento but don't know enough to pinpoint.

It appears the Rockford Triolos were from Villafranca, Sicily which is right near Ribera and Burgio.

There were early Colorado members from Villafranca and the nearby villages. Rockford's Agrigento ties must have connected to the whole provincial network but like everything with Rockford they stayed off the radar.

I did not know that about the Colorado members. This makes perfect sense as a few of the Triolo family members moved to Colorado by the 1950s and 1960s. Rockford LCN member Phil Priola used some LCN contact in Colorado (I think Joe Salardino) to line up a job for his nephew at a LV casino. FBI files note this but don't name the Colorado member.

Full circle back to Bacino, there was a Frank Bacino involved with the early Colorado family. He was from Burgio, where Phil Bacino's cousin in Chicago was from.

In late 1948, Phil Bacino and his wife returned from a trip to Italy and were accompanied by a female Triolo who lived in the Bronx. So he was well-connected to that surname.

A month later Phil Amari returned from Italy. This trip is likely when Amari and Bacino were photographed together in Ribera, as Phil Bacino's son John was also on this trip and shows up in the photo.

There apparently was another Triolo family from Rockford that moved to Colorado as well. Giuseppe Triolo from Rockford died in Greeley, Colorado at the home of his son Andrew in 1971. Another son, Joe, was living in Denver at the time. This Giuseppe was born in Misilmeri, Sicily in 1892.
