George Kaufman

Post by JakeTheSnake630 »

In my opinion George Kaufman was an underrated, vital member of WHG/organized crime in the Boston area. Everybody seemed to trust him with money, weapons, he was a liaison between different groups, he set up the garages to work out of, and seemed to have a ton of connections. He also died before trial so as far as I know he never did a day in jail. I would love to find more info on him. I've read basically all the WHG/Boston OC books, and the depth of info on him is short. Anyone have any info or little known stories about George Kaufman? Would love to hear some thoughts!

Well here is a transcript of a wiretapped conversation between George Kaufman and Steven Disarro talking about the Channel nightclub. I hope that you might find this interesting.

That’s great David thanks brother! Everyone seemed to respect George. And he must have been a whiz with numbers and finances. An unsung hero of sorts for Boston organized crime.

I thought he was a legit mechanic who booked on the side. I think he stayed away from the violent part of the biz to. But who knows. He died before the indictments rite?

Yea I’ve never heard of him being involved in violence he was one of the only guys to work with everyone. Martorano, Flemmi, bulger, salemme, and others in WHG and LCN. He died of cancer I believe before the trial could start. Everyone seemed to trust him with money and finance, etc. Don’t think he ever saw a jail cell. He may have been a legitimate mechanic but was def a full time criminal with pretty big connections.

I think that he helped salemme and Flemmi to shake down Jewish bookmakers and the book Black Mass mentions George Kaufman as going to meetings in the Lancaster street garage.
