I watched this last night and had some of the same concerns. It was like Whitey did what he wanted with the rest falling in line. It was worth watching, but one shouldn't use it to learn about the mafia and the Winter Hill Gang....

Haven;t seen the movie but from the trailers I'd have to agree. It just looks like Johnny Depp with crappy looking makeup and prosthetics. They should have just gone with an older actor that could resemble Whitey. But of course the almighty dollar rules.

Johnny Depp is old enough, he just doesn't look like him in the slightest. I've had the same problem with Benicio Del Torro playing Pablo Escobar in Escobar: Paradise Lost.

It's almost impossible for me to watch any movie involving the Italian mob at this point if it stretches the truth too much. I saw that Iceman movie in a little theater in LA when I was on vacation and I would have walked out if I had been alone because of the bullshit mob connection.

I'm not as hard on non-Italian crime movies and I don't know a ton about the Patriarca crew, so I'm looking forward to checking this out. If it's entertaining that's good enough for me. Not sure if I'm alone, but I thought the Departed was a clusterfuck and I couldn't get into it so hopefully this does the job.

Why do the actors have to look like the characters? I never understood why that mattered to anyone.
