It would take an avalanche of stupid lies for me to lose respect for Capeci. His credibility is well-earned which is why it's surprising he'd lapse in such a lazy way and try to cover it up. When he's made mistakes before he's addressed it head-on. Hopefully he will clear it up in a future article and set everything right.
He is getting older and no doubt it's hard to write a weekly article especially during COVID, so I hope this isn't a medical issue and was just a small error in judgment.

It's an embarrassing situation for him. I think his (potential) mistake isn't a big deal compared to his great track record, but the way he tried to cover it is lame. It's better to own it and move on.

To say he deserves to be discredited from one mistake, egregious or not, is not looking at the big picture.
