Caporione (Term)
So I performed a quick google search. The term Caporione as used in Sangiorgi's reports originates from the munincipal government of Medieval Rome. They led a specific "Rione" much like the families of Palermo do and then answered to the Conservatori di Roma. They even had Constabili/Capotore supporting them. Any links between these titles/ranks and the early Mafia ranks?
Re: Caporione (Term)
The Mafiosi adopted the terms that were familiar to them from politics and the military. If you're asking for written documentation such as "On July 5, 1830, we hereby agree to use terms borrowed from the government and the military," it doesn't exist. It's logical inference.
