Saverio santora
Just wondering if anyone has a picture of this guy or some solid info , the guy is like a ghost . I know he was a powerful member of the 116th street crew and was instrumental in the rise of barney bellomo . A picture or info would be greatly appreciated

Re: Saverio santora
Obviously a very low key guy. Not much info can be found on him predating Cafaro´s testimony in 1988.
His home address was listed at 40 Edgewater Lane, Great Neck, NY. Born June 6, 1935 and died of natural causes on May 28,1987. According to Cafaro, Santora sought Gigante´s approval for at least two murders, one being the Nat Maselli killing in 1982.
I think JD discovered that Santora was made in 1976 and a FBI document dated in September of 1983, listed him as a captain. However, he may have served as acting underboss already back in 1982 because Cafaro said that Santora served both as underboss and the captain of the 116th Street crew around that time. He probably functioned as the official underboss around 1986/1987 after Salerno was convicted in the Commission Trial.
Apparently a serious and well respected guy.

I don´t have his rapsheet, but chances are that he was arrested at one time and a mug shot of him taken. But I haven´t seen one of him. He seems to have flied under the radar for a very long time. Hard to say if it´s due to pure luck or delibarate strategy from his part. To my knowledge, Cafaro doesn´t implicate him in any crime (other than limited involvement in the Maselli killing). By Cafaro´s wording, it´s sounds like Santora was more of a overseer of street crimes and not actual participant in crimes once he rose above soldier. I could be wrong though.Hailbritain wrote:Great info thanks hairy , obviously this guy didn't like to be in photos ?? I've never seen one of him
You can find it in the 25 years after Valachi report. Just google it and you´ll find it.Cheech wrote:does anyone have the transcripts of Cafaros testimony

Sorry. Wrong Frank
Re: Saverio santora
Someone sent me his mugshot privately a couple years ago. Was good to finally put a face to the name. I don't know a whole lot about the Genovese family but he is someone who stood out to me. It's interesting to me how powerful this crew and the Greenwich Village crew were for so long, and probably still today.

Re: Saverio santora
Yeah B , that would be awesome if u could post it
Re: Saverio santora
Sorry, it is from someone else's research and I didn't save it anyway. It could easily show up at some point on here. Sorry if it seems like I'm acting secretive since it's just a mugshot, it's I just try not to use people's original research without permission.
Re: Saverio santora
Unless the guy in question took the photo or is the sole owner of the original photo or print then I don't see how he could be upset about someone posting it.
Re: Saverio santora
You're probably right, but I have a lot of respect for the original researchers here and one way of showing that is to not share their materials without permission.Snakes wrote:Unless the guy in question took the photo or is the sole owner of the original photo or print then I don't see how he could be upset about someone posting it.
I shouldn't have mentioned having seen his photo, just wanted to say that Santora did have a face and wasn't just a shadowy ghost... though if any family was going to have ghosts in the administration it'd be the Genovese.

I used to have a picture of him, but lost it. To the best of my recollection, he looked something like this:
