illiterate mobsters
Might be a weird question but I find it interesting. I know Skinny Dom can't read or write. Do we know of any other mobsters that were illiterate?
If nobody sees it, it didn't happen.

Sammy Gravano is dyslexic and not having gone to high school has nothing to do with being illiterate. At the beginning many immigrant mafiosi couldn't read and write in Italian and barely understood how to speak in english.

Re: illiterate mobsters
Pete Gotti looks illiterate...
Re: illiterate mobsters
as in can read or write?
Re: illiterate mobsters
or just low i.q.?
Re: illiterate mobsters
Not being able to read/write.
You know of any to add to the list???
Personally I don’t know if any, I know Sammy was dyslexic,he might not be great at reading or writing and could be performing at like a grade school level... but I think he can read and write the basics...
I wonder how his dyslexia affected him when it came to counting money... honestly. Cause in one of his new interviews he was talking about his dyslexia saying how numbers looked different to him. Like a 3 looked like an 8 and a 8 looked like a 3 and so on....

Most of the former mobsters that I see online are barely literate. Michael Franzese seems like a pretty sharp guy—but the rest of them don't understand basic grammar, spelling, punctuation, or capitalization. It's amazing that these people who read and write at probably a 3rd-grade level are able to run such complicated schemes.

I remember the book on the Boston Mob, Underboss Genaro Anguilo had a mobster named Carmen Tortora to their office before he went to prison. They told him they would send him a TV when he was in prison because he couldn’t read.

Bruno Facciola (sp) was supposedly illiterate, along with Dominick Trinchera
Can't find any info on when or where Bruno was born. Born in Italy at the turn of the century and you're illiterate throughout your life? That makes sense. But if he was born in the US , in NYC, even if it was during the 10s/20s/30s... that's pretty bad...

I checked and Facciolo was born December 30, 1936. Don't know where but probably the US.

Re: illiterate mobsters
Didn't both Bruno and Trinchera own legitimate businesses? How can an illiterate man fill any paper form for his business? Trinchera's English was supposedly bad, but that doesn't mean he was illiterate.

I think so. It was the first book on them. Written in the 1990’s. They had lots of dialogue from the wire tapes in the Angiolo’s office. Carmen Tortora came up there to say goodbye and they were offering him wine and one of them said they would get him a TV because he couldn’t read. Maybe it was Danny or one of the brothers. Or it was Larry Zannino. I remember it though.
