Passing around names of guys to be proposed ,Still happen ? I heard it’s still that way and also heard it’s not done that way any longer because of reasons like Informants... etc etc .

when they raided chin's son a couple years ago he had a list of dead made guys and living made guys from the nj faction. it's interesting enough that he had those lists but i gotta imagine they were keeping track of the dead members to accurately replenish the ranks. just a guess but imo finding those lists so recently points to it still being done, at least possibly in a similar manner.

In all seriousness, I do wonder what Chicago, Philly, NE etc. did when making people. I suspect Chicago just made people when they wanted and never felt a need to consult NYC?

Gene Borello said in his interview with us that lists of proposed members are still passed around, but it doesn't really mean anything anymore. For example, if the Bonannos pass a list around and the Gambinos make a beef, the Bonannos are still going to make the guy.

In the modern era where families are reluctant to use violence, there isn't really much recourse anyway. I seriously doubt any of the families are willing to go to war over it.

Of course one of the reasons for the list was to monitor whether other families were playing by the rules and only making guys to replace those that have died. Plus the extra 2 at Christmas.

That said, I'm trying to recall what was reported a while back (Gang Land?) about how some things might have changed due to the families wanting to make more families to more quickly replace the guys dying and those in prison. Anyone remember that?

I didn’t ask him in that form, but he told me it just goes twice every year, so there would be a ceremony in February, and then another one in October-December.
