He got out in 1991 I believe and died in 1993. Wonder if we can find out which prisons he served time in. If he served time in that Kentucky prison then we know

If he got out in 1991 sounds like he did the whole 2/3rds of the time and didnt cooperate

In 1986, Milwaukee Crime Family boss Frank Balistrieri approached authorities with a proposal to cooperate. The deal was Balistrieri would debrief with FBI agents and tell them everything he knew, in exchange (it seems) for being transferred to a federal prison closer to home. He was already serving prison time for an earlier conviction for casino skimming.

Anyone know what became of this? Did it go through?
interesting EDm
ironically ? he did go pettion the court to move to the kentucky prison citing medical reasons , he was denied

So does him reaching out to the FEDs tarnish his reputation as a die hard mafioso? I think it does. The fact that a boss like him reached out to government is bad

I mean he is always listed as one of the top bosses to have been in the LCN. This does not make him look good

Definitely a bad look. Milwaukee and Chicago had lots of criminal dealings. Aiuppa and Cerone were already in jail for skimming, but if I was Accardo and Carlisi, I would have been worried. Balistrieri probably could have hurt them if he went all the way and fully debriefed.

I don't know enough about Milwaukee but is it possible Balistrieri did all this to go easy on his sons. I know the sons did time but I wonder if the father was trying to protect them to some extent. Mind you, he was supposedly an arse so probably not.

I believe in the book "Casino" Allen Glick mentions in his interview that Civella didn't like or think too highly of Balistrieri. I've always thought the way Pistone described him in his book was a little off. Balistrieri is described as way more powerful and influential than I think he actually was. There's a point where Pistone has Lefty telling him that Balistrieri controlled Kansas City, Cleveland and Detroit. Which was ridiculous.

That just goes to show you that some of these guys, whether an undercover cop or LCN member, either misunderstood or misremembered facts or just dont know everything about their organazation. Does anyone know who was the Commission rep for Detroit before and after they were on the Commmission??

Trying to remember, but I thought I read that it was technically the Genovese(although Colombo would have made more sense based on familial relationship). But in all honesty, I can't see Detroit giving a damn about the Commission once Zerilli was no longer a member. They did their own thing and did what they wanted. They had their own contacts with New York, Chicago, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, St. Louis, Los Angeles. They didn't really need the Commission. Just my opinion.

Balistrieri wasn't well-liked among his own crime family. I don't think he was very respected by Chicago, either.

No doubt there are many many more dry snitches that were high ranking.

Lefty didn't know as much as he thought he did. Notice that Mike Sabella later corrected him.

I always thought too that Balistrieri puffed himself up to make him look more important than he really was.
