The Steamfitters is part of the United Association, which includes fitters, plumbers, welders, etc. The UA is affiliated with the AFL-CIO. Local 638 has jurisdiction throughout NYC and Long Island when it comes to steamfitting. But there is also Plumbers Local 1 (also part of UA) that has jurisdiction of plumbing throughout the city. The trades are related but not identical. Local 7 up in Albany, for example, is both plumbers and steamfitters.

Re: Feds indict 11 Construction Union officials
The funniest thing is when you’re at a bar around lunchtime anywhere in the city in Manhattan you will see all the Union Laborers and Tradesmen come in for their hour lunch break. For that entire hour they will proceed to shove as much beer and shots down their throats while smoking joints outside and doing lines of coke in the bathroom without eating a single morsel of food then go out and operate a crane for the rest of the day lol. I’m actually surprised more people don’t die on construction sites in Manhattan .

as a union official with a building trades local in nyc. i personally know all but 1 person on the indictment. no oc involved. italian/irish or otherwise. just a bunch of mutts who are in a position to take advantage and did. im tellng you tthe mob is out of unions unless its concrete. now part of the mob leaving the real building trades unions is them setting up ?"rogue" unions like 295 or 355 where they are union in name only. 638 is a mechanical local where they bid the mechanical package. including sheetmetal and plumbing at times. it seems these mutts at 638 have been steering the work to thesefake "mobbed UP" unions under their package.
for esample 638 gets a job which includes piping/sheetmaetal duct/and pkumbing. they sub the sheetmetal and plumbing to contractors who are supposed to be with local 28 and local 1 respectively. but instead they allow their fitter company to sub to these fake union shops and pocket the difference. ultimately robbing both workers union and non

The Coonans and the Spillanes are still active out there. Not like it was but they’re around. They have their hands in another Union too.
Most of you wouldn't be comfortable in my playground.

I know we've had this discussion before but, while their presence has been vastly reduced from years ago, to say "the mob is out of the unions" is an over-generalization that requires more specificity.queensnyer wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 3:18 pm as a union official with a building trades local in nyc. i personally know all but 1 person on the indictment. no oc involved. italian/irish or otherwise. just a bunch of mutts who are in a position to take advantage and did. im tellng you tthe mob is out of unions unless its concrete. now part of the mob leaving the real building trades unions is them setting up ?"rogue" unions like 295 or 355 where they are union in name only. 638 is a mechanical local where they bid the mechanical package. including sheetmetal and plumbing at times. it seems these mutts at 638 have been steering the work to thesefake "mobbed UP" unions under their package.

First, talking about non-building trades unions, over just the past 10 years we've seen mob cases involving four ILA locals. Three locals in the United Food & Commercial Workers Union. Also the Newspaper & Mail Deliverers Union. It should be noted that most of the activity with these have been from the Genovese family. The NMDU also involved the Colombos. In 2011, it was reported the Manhattan DA was looking at ways of removing ongoing Gambino influence in the Pavers District Council. There was also the Bonanno case involving IBT Local 917 but I couldn't see any activity there beyond the family using influence with some officials for their gambling and loansharking operations.
As far as the building trades, if we're just talking about what you would consider "real building trades unions," over the past 10 years you had a case involving the Genovese and a sweetheart deal with Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 7. Another case involving the Gambinos and a sweetheart deal with LIUNA Local 325. There were reports of $96 million in inflated costs from no-work jobs involving the Operating Engineers Locals 14 and 15 (previously tied to the Genovese and Colombos) at the WTC project. Also a case involving a Lucchese associate shaking down workers from Cement & Concrete Workers Local 20. Of course the Colombos and LIUNA Local 6A. Cement Masons Local 780 is another one I'd consider. And even when the mob doesn't control a union anymore, they still run different scams to circumvent payments. In recent years this has happened with IBT Local 282.
As for what you would consider rogue unions, you have the Amalgamated Carpenters & Joiners Union, which the Genovese family reportedly formed as a result of lost influence with the Carpenters Union (which appears to have been mostly cleaned up). You had a couple officials busted for selling union memberships a while back. The family was also using using control of International Union of Journeymen & Allied Trades Local 713 to extort contractors. The Gambinos did the same with control of International Union of Journeymen & Allied Trades Local 175. Also the Genovese and the Professional Industrial Trade Workers Union.
You mentioned rogue locals "295 and 355." Which ones are you referring to?
If you mean the Metropolitan Building Managers of New York, of the dozen officials on their website, four of them appear to have Albanian/Balkan names. Interesting.NJShore4Life wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 3:22 pm What’s up with the Building Manager’s Union in Manhattan and all the Albanians in it? All Albanians

Are these guys connected to the Service Employee International Union? There was a case involving the Genovese and Bonannos scheming to bribe officials in Local 32B-32J but that was way back in 2001.

One of Scopos sons is listed as an organizer for the Concrete Workers District Council, its kinda crazy how someone whos family is so mobbed up can even have a position like that. I think pogo has him listed as a Gambino soldier on his chart also.

Re: Feds indict 11 Construction Union officials
first of all half the locals you mention have nothing to do with construction trades. liuna 325 is a small local in nj. they do not come into nyc. the carpenters local is not considered rogue in nyc yet. even though they left the bt council. local 713 is a rogue union. . rogue unions are st up to be corrupt. some by oc. either way they have no pull in nyc and are not recognized as unions by major gc and developers. a bt council union can remove them fom a job with a grievance. the factWiseguy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:50 pmI know we've had this discussion before but, while their presence has been vastly reduced from years ago, to say "the mob is out of the unions" is an over-generalization that requires more specificity.queensnyer wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 3:18 pm as a union official with a building trades local in nyc. i personally know all but 1 person on the indictment. no oc involved. italian/irish or otherwise. just a bunch of mutts who are in a position to take advantage and did. im tellng you tthe mob is out of unions unless its concrete. now part of the mob leaving the real building trades unions is them setting up ?"rogue" unions like 295 or 355 where they are union in name only. 638 is a mechanical local where they bid the mechanical package. including sheetmetal and plumbing at times. it seems these mutts at 638 have been steering the work to thesefake "mobbed UP" unions under their package.

the fact that you really dont know the difference between some of these things shows you dont know enough to debate. dont mean that in a disrespectful way, just that im on the inside of the industry. i know more than the media tells you and whether they are actually reporting facts. the mob is gone from real trades unions in nyc,
they used to run everything from bids to union events. control a whole site from top down. they now might sneak in hear and there mostly through developers and the rogue unions they start, its the mob trying to get back in. they were all but eliminated from the trade unions after 9/11. so they started unions on their own, 638 is a steamfitters union in nyc. the steamfitters union. so someone stared 355 doing steamfitter work at 1/2 price ro try to take over the market the union holds and get back on these jobs. like 295 and 363 and all the other rogue unions popping up.
it works when corrupt guys at 638 like we have here take bribes to steer work to 355 instead of their own local. but fails 95% of the time.
if you think 1 mob case every ten years means the mob is still in the unions, you dont understand the business.
themob is still heavy in construction, non union. they can control a job from top to bottom like they did with union in 80's with no one really looking over their shoulder. if its private money the unions cant make a grievance, just try to sell the services of our shops. i can name you 20 companies foing work right now all mobbed up. all non union.
some even say the fact that mob was pushed out of the unions has hurt us and you can make a case.

It's Funny , The Mob being eliminated did hurt the union locals and its members . No one is scared of the Unions anymore , The developers and GC'S tell the unions to go fuck themselves , When the Mob was involved there was fear of death , Violence , Shutdowns ,Stoppages etc etc ....queensnyer wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 7:05 amfirst of all half the locals you mention have nothing to do with construction trades. liuna 325 is a small local in nj. they do not come into nyc. the carpenters local is not considered rogue in nyc yet. even though they left the bt council. local 713 is a rogue union. . rogue unions are st up to be corrupt. some by oc. either way they have no pull in nyc and are not recognized as unions by major gc and developers. a bt council union can remove them fom a job with a grievance. the factWiseguy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:50 pmI know we've had this discussion before but, while their presence has been vastly reduced from years ago, to say "the mob is out of the unions" is an over-generalization that requires more specificity.queensnyer wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 3:18 pm as a union official with a building trades local in nyc. i personally know all but 1 person on the indictment. no oc involved. italian/irish or otherwise. just a bunch of mutts who are in a position to take advantage and did. im tellng you tthe mob is out of unions unless its concrete. now part of the mob leaving the real building trades unions is them setting up ?"rogue" unions like 295 or 355 where they are union in name only. 638 is a mechanical local where they bid the mechanical package. including sheetmetal and plumbing at times. it seems these mutts at 638 have been steering the work to thesefake "mobbed UP" unions under their package.
