It’s funny the first episode Gene was wearing that Ap watch... then the comments blew go about it... he hasn’t worn it sense, he said he borrowed it from a friend, I guarantee that he still has several high end watches from the home invasions and jewelry store robberies he did.. just kept the watches stashed from the feds...

He told me that Ronnie didn’t want him made cause then technically they would at one point hafe had the same status and both been soldiers (Ronnie later was acting skipper) and he said that he wanted to make sure that Gene was kept under him... I mean who knows how true it is... but it does make some sense ... if I was Ronnie I would want to keep gene under me also.. he was doing a lot of the leg work for that crew especially when Ronnie was away... I do believe he was having trouble getting his shy money collected cause it seemed like a fact that festa was kind of a mark, he got beat out of money several times and didn’t do anything in retaliation...

I’m honestly suspect of this ‘Festa is a mark/pussy/wimp/fag’ narrative.
The guy will serve over five years inside. Five years.

I would seriously hesitate in calling someone who can do five years in US prisons, a pussy.

Exactly. I give him respect for standing tall and taking 5.. but that’s not what I was talking about. On the streets you can’t be a Shylock or a bookmaker and be known to do nothing when you get beat or someone doesn’t pay you.. it’s a must to retaliate , or else everyone’s going to play your ass.

Alite, at least in my opinion, seems 100x more sincere about the “keep kids outta the life” message than Gene. Borrello seems to only talk about it when he’s justifying cooperating. And maybe Alite has just had more practice speaking publicly, but he clearly does a better job than Gene of tying any kind of cowboy story they tell back into “the message”.

And, in Alites defense, almost every guest they’ve had on that show talks him up likes he’s the fucking terminator.

Talking Alite's reputation up almost seems to be like a prerequisite for coming on the show in the first place.

Anyway, as much as I enjoy some of the info that comes by way of the show, they both talk out of both sides of their mouths. Saying they're doing this to keep kids out of the street life while acting like their street reputation back then is still the most important thing to them. You can't act like you still take pride in something then turn around and say you're trying to teach the opposite.

Dino’s crew was another generation but they were very dangerous and unlike Gene, Dino and his guys actually successfully killed people. Gene’s generation are millennials( born 81-96). Gene seemed like the only active shooter in the Asaro/ Gialanzo crew in the mid 2000’s- early 2010’s. However there’s definitely young guys on the streets who’ve put in work but just haven’t been caught yet. For example, the guys who whacked Chris Castellano 10 years ago. The mob attracts sociopaths so inevitably there’s always gunna be guys who are willing to pick up a gun.

Also I found a way more in-depth podcast with hootie, someone else had him on one... did hootie flip and cooperate??? Or just leave the life????

Agree 10000% on Gene wanting to get back into the life if it was in any way possible.

Someone in another thread a while back had posited that it wasn’t necessarily the time Rubeo was facing that caused him to flip (though I’m sure that didn’t hurt), it was that he had been selling coke on the sneak, and he worried about getting clipped for it. I think it was a multi-kilo bust. So he was probably looking at at least 10.
