It is possible that Nuccio misremembered the year since the killings occurred in 1943, 1944 and later in 1946/47. O'Neglia was the first one to go in 1943 and according to sources, he was allegedly Prios main partner in various ventures such as the Willow Laundry Company which was located at 758 Willow St, the Grande Cheese Co (other North Side members were also partners in Grande) and they also operated a gas station and a parking lot.
Thanks. I wouldn't want to make too much out of the "joining the 'outfit'" statement here, but it makes one wonder if up until this conflict was crushed the former Northside family was still considered a quasi-indpendent entity under Outfit dominance.
This excerpt is from the Richard Cain files, right? I recall that this file also stated that Rocky Potenza had to kick up not only to Giancana, but also to Prio as technically his North suburban operations were under Prio's territory. This goes to further illustrate one of your arguments, that when a guy from one faction was operating in the area of another territorial boss he also had to cut that territorial boss in.

Interesting, thanks. I doubt he was in Sicily visiting family, as it seems that his mother's parents (Olimpio Scalzitti and Vincenza Grossi) were most likely Abruzzesi.
Cain was Giancanas main rep around the world before and after Cains imprisonment. That same year Cain was also in Madrid, Spain, and Giancana allegedly gave him the financials to open up a front, something like a casino, for their narcotics and prostitution rackets. So like you already said, it seems Cain wasnt visiting family in Palermo at the time lol
Maybe he just liked the lemons? lol

Thats right. Besides being a west side guy, Potenza was in Prios area and so he had to kick up to Prio, Giancana and Battaglia. Same as Lenny Patrick when he transferred to Rogers Park, he had to kick up to Prio, Giancana and Alex. Even when he opened few ops in Lake County, he had to kick up to Les Kruse/Rocco Fischetti. In the end when Giancana fled the country and followed by Battaglias imprisonment, Potenzas interests were sold out and simply fell under Prio as elder statesman. Potenza also had serious health issues at the time i think and so they sent for Rocky Montagna as "frontman" to buy off his interests...

Nicely said. Besides falling under the Capone regime, it seems that the hatred never really vanished between the two groups and it seems there was some type of quasi peace and it was a matter of time when the whole situation was going to blow up for the second time. When Prio took over, the North Side never made problems ever again

Just to make the situation regarding the 1940s North Side/Capone Outfit conflict even more interesting and confusing...according one of Phil D'Andrea's crew members, Sam Garafolo, in 1943 the same time when D'Andrea got imprisoned with the rest of the bosses, North Side capo Thomas Oneglia allegedly contributed $5,000 for D'Andrea's bond. This allegedly happened right before O'Neglia's demise. Garafolo made few mistakes by labeling O'Neglia as D'Andrea's successor of the Italo-American Union but later corrected himself by making again one small mistake, by saying that the real successor was Lawrence "Marino" which in fact was Imburgio (unless im wrong).

An interesting piece of information I came across. FBI agents in Los Angeles communicated that Tony Accardo was scheduled to meet with former Bonanno Family boss Joseph Bonanno for dinner in February of 1990. No further information was related, so the intelligence was false or the meeting never took place.

Perhaps with the rest of top leadership under indictment, the dissident Sicilian faction saw this as their time to strike, and maybe wanted to get D'Andrea out hoping then that he would side with them (or perhaps at some point he was a sympathizer and then like Prio et al didn't back them when the shit hit the fan. Though I find this unlikely given D'Andrea's history).

D'Andrea was with Capone/Ricca from the beginning to the end. It seems that D'Andrea had close connections with all of the remnants/old members of the former Unione Siciliano which was later renamed into the Italo-American union and during the 30s D'Andrea was the president. Ricca and some of the fellas also became members...

Thanks for confirming, my impression of D'Andrea was that he was a strong Capone/Ricca loyalist, so I very much doubt that he'd be sympathetic to any plotting like that.

Found this list of members in the Albert Frabotta FBI file. The CI provided the information on July 20, 1967, so the source was likely either Rocco Pranno or his associate Anthony Amatore, or Louis Fratto. The identifying CG-number is redacted.

If it was Pranno he didn't think too highly of himself based on the description.

A couple to add to this:

The name between Aloisio and Bacino ("member, a 'lackey'") is Joseph Amabile.
The name between Clementi and Joe Colucci ("member many years ago, no longer active") is George Colucci.
The name between DeMonte and DiVarco is George Dicks.
Not sure of the name between Glimco and Infelise but it may be Leonard Gianola; sometimes these memos have slip-ups when alphabetizing.
The name between Infelise and LaBarbara ("probably a member, described as 'harmless'") is Albert Jannotta.
I don't know all three names between LaBarbara and Manfredi but Sam Maccaluso is probably one of them.
The name between Roselli and Varelli ("member") is Rocco Salvatore a.k.a. Bobby Dore.
