Ray Patriarca Jr. did go from Boss to Soldier but I believe he was shelved after he was forced to step down. If my memory serves me right he even started crying when he was forced to step down by the family.

No he started crying because they told him it was step down or get popped and he pleaded for his life. He was never ready for the top spot, I seriously doubt he done much of anything before they asked him to take over the family. People say Gotti Jr. was unprepared, well imagine that times two and you have Junior Patriarca (he wasn't a Jr. by the way, he was just called Junior)

Yeah, he was Elizabeth Minore's nephew I believe. Toto Minore is interesting guy. By the late 70s, things picked up for him a bit when he linked up with CH Gambinos and heroin pipeline. He went back to Sicily, only to be whacked out by the Corleonesi in 1982. White death. For years law enforcement thought he was still the shot-caller in Trapani, not realizing he was killed. His brother took over the organization. His niece married Felice Buccellato. Thanks for that info. It all comes back to you Buccellatos over there. I always thought it was interesting that Maranzano didn't have that many relations to other Castellammare-born mobsters (at least in the US).

Phatmatress -- Ligambi wouldn't really count since he was only acting boss. He was about as close to official boss as you can get without actually being one, though.

Anyone know if Paul Sciacca was still active after Evola took over? From what I understand he was backed by the Commission, so I don't think he was just acting, but given his health and legal issues he must have stepped down in the early 70s, but on some charts I've seen on here he was still reporting to Nicholas DiStefano in the late 1970s.

In regards to your question Sonny Frank Valenti was the Boss of the Rochester family but was forced to step down after the family found out he was not sharing certain profits with the guy's. After his demotion he remained active as a Soldier. His brother Costenze “Stanley” Valenti was also an early Boss of the family and after he stepped down he became a Capo.
