Commuting in the LCN
Is there any info on ways more surveillance-sensitive guys used to move around?
I know of Quiet Dom going the wrong way up the highway ramps, or Tino Fiumara in the back of cars, those are pretty extreme - but in general on a more toned-down level is it like Casino where guys switch a whole lot of cars and take extra precautions?

Leonetti switched cars with someone going the opposite way at an exit to get Scarfo to NY when he was under restrictions not to leave the state.

I can't remember who it was that I read about that, they would stop and have a several hour coffee, then just sneak out at the last minute to head to the actual meeting.

Re: Commuting in the LCN
Jack Garcia said guys would meet in hospital cafeterias and bathrooms at like 3:30am.
Michael Franzese said Sonny would drive to a family members house in Brooklyn, walk in the front door, thru the house, then right out the back door to the next street over and have another driver waiting for him there. He said Feds would be waiting 15-20 min sometimes for him to come out but he’d be long gone.

Guys riding in trunks to meetings.
Someone on here once posted Barney would meet at a black clothing store, so anyone else who wasn’t black would stand out like a sore thumb. I’m paraphrasing, someone else may remember the story better,

Re: Commuting in the LCN
Timely topic, as Gangland News has a story today on the life and death of Genovese Capo Chuckie Tuzzo. It quoted a law enforcement source that called Tuzzo “super surveillance conscious” and that he would leave 10 (ten!) hours early for a meeting because “he figured he would either lose his tail before he got to the meeting or we’d get tired or hungry and let him go.” I’m sure there’s a little hyperbole in that ten hour description but Tuzzo lived to be 86 and as far as New York mobsters go, he spent very little time in prison. It’s funny, because in that Fear City documentary, one of the Feds said Sal Avellino did very little surveillance detection when he was driving Tony Ducks around in his jaguar. They said he was real easy to follow.

I just can’t help but wonder why, none of them just ever tried using disguises.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
