Current Chicago Players 2020
This is a project that Pete and I recently managed to finish mainly with the help of at last half a dozen individuals and it’s about today’s alleged Outfit-connected guys who still roam the streets of Chicago. Before I begin I would like to thank Pete and all of the guys who helped me in the creation of this so-called list but almost all of them chose to remain anonymous, mainly because some are still living in those same neighborhoods and some are related to those alleged Outfit-connected people. So if someone decides to come open, feel free to do it yourself. Again, I have nothing to do with this information since I don’t live in the Chicago area and all of the props go to my accomplices.
Back in the old days or during the 1950’s and 60s, when the Chicago Outfit was at its peak, the organization was formed by around 25 crews, including both Italian and non-Italian, under the jurisdiction of four territorial bosses and one top administration. As time passed by that same number of crews went down on much lower scale out of various reasons, like for example by the early 1970s the old Capone guard was completely gone and by the mid 1990’s, two whole factions, the North Side and Chicago Heights groups were completely “eliminated” by law enforcement.
By the end of the 90s, they were down to 5 crews, including Elmwood Park, Melrose Park, Cicero, Grand Av and Chinatown, but by 2006, the Melrose Park crew was also completely shut down and their territory was allegedly absorbed by the leading Cicero crew at the time, and they were down to two factions or two territorial bosses, North/West and Cicero/South.
Interesting information is that during that same time period, the Elmwood Park crew allegedly closed shop, meaning they stopped expanding their membership and decreased their illegal activities and also became more semi-legit by being involved in various legitimate enterprises with the help of “donations” given to local politicians.
Other sources say that the Elmwood Park crew was allegedly still active by having a seat on the top administration together with the Cicero mob. After the Family Secrets trials, the boss of the Outfit was Cicero’s rep Mike Sarno and he allegedly still kicked up illegal proceedings to the alleged top boss at the time, John DiFronzo.
Whatever is the truth, something obviously was happening with DiFronzo’s own crew since most of the information at the time says that they were still infiltrating themselves in the legitimate world and most of the cases from late 2000’s and early 2010’s that included the Elmwood Park crew were small time.
The Elmwood Park crew used to be the leading group of the North/West faction and if they took a step back from the illegal rackets, then it is quite possible that they were no longer part of the Outfit, or they stayed in some type of connection only regarding the legitimate stuff and money laundering. There are also some rumors that the Cicero/South faction was only making their own people, meaning some say that Sarno brought around 4 or 5 additional made members.
This also means that the only crew from the old North/West mob that was still involved in illegal operations was the Grand Av group headed by Albie Vena. According to the reports, some Grand Av guys were still connected in burglaries and allegedly some narcotics operations. Some say that Vena allegedly absorbed or remained in connection with some members of the old Elmwood Park crew who were still involved in some illegal schemes to an extent, such as Tony Dote and possibly Rudy Fratto.
So after the imprisonment of the Outfit’s boss Mike Sarno in 2010 and also after the alleged closure of the Elmwood Park crew, it seems that the century old Chicago Outfit no longer had a top level administration or a controlling “body” whose purpose is to keep the organization in one piece.
We still have some allegations such as DiFronzo’s number two guy Joe Andriacchi being the top boss of the Outfit during the mid 2010’s, or one of their most trusted associates Marco D’Amico being the Outfit’s advisor, but it seems that all of that information leads nowhere since by 2014 DiFronzo completely began losing his mind due to Alzheimer’s disease, followed by Andriacchi who one or two years later also developed some serious illness. On top of that some sources say that D’Amico wasn’t even a member of the Mafia or he never went through an induction process, although the made member status in the Outfit was always a relative situation, meaning back in the old days they had non-Italians on the top administration, and also additional examples with Italians being made after 30 or 40 years active careers and shortly after that, instantly bumped to bosses of their own crews or capos.
I personally believe in the theory that history always repeats itself, meaning at the beginning or even before Al Capone became a big shot in Chicago, there were two factions or “crime families” which ruled both corruption and the underworld at the time and so it seems that today we have very similar image with the factions being completely separate or connected to an extent, without any top administration or a ruling body, just elder statesmen or crew bosses with old time reputation. Don’t forget that not all of these guys are made members, since some of them are probably associates and some are even middlemen, and feel free to give your opinion on some additional names or regarding possible mistakes.

Perry Mandera made the news for a while there and then I heard no more about him. I wonder where he is today.

Thanks great list. The Nick Roti entry is very interesting. Chief of Bureau of Organized Crime. How is he related to Fred? Its amazing he was allowed to even be in the Bureau, let alone be chief.

Re: Current Chicago Players 2020
A question that I have is whether he is related to the Southside Rotis or the Rotis by Grand Ave -- though they're all actually the same Rotis going back to the old country. The Roti, Andriacchi, Spina, Tassione, Bertucci (I think Barbara also) families are all intermarried and closely knit families from Simbario, Vibo Valentia, Calabria. Some settled in the Chinatown area and some in the Grand Ave area, but maintained strong connections to each other (and to relatives back in Simbario) over the years.

Re: Current Chicago Players 2020
Bruno Roti Sr succeeded Phil D'Andrea and he was the creator of the so-called Roti clan who infiltrated them in the First Ward, Chicagos judicial system and police force, and he had his hole family placed on the citys payroll. D'Andreas main power in the political world used to be Jake Guzik and so when D'Andrea died during the early 50s, followed by Guziks semi-retirement, Roti was the one who succeeded all of it. So it seems the familys influence was so huge during those days, that even in present times we can still see some of Rotis descendants in Chicagos system

Re: Current Chicago Players 2020
It is interesting to point out two important things regarding this project or should i say, regarding today's Chicago Outfit.
First, the whole theory regarding todays small number of active members is possibly true since we probably have between 10 and 15 members allegedly still being in action. Also, if we add the Cicero guys who were allegedly made by Sarno himself during the late 2000's, than we might reach the number 20, but we still dont have any complete evidence regarding this last statement.
Now, if we count all of those listed names, we have less than 70 individuals allegedly involved in all kinds of activities, meaning being active on the streets, in the legitimate world and in Chicagos system. Lets say 15 guys are made members and the rest are associates, and lets say that every associate has around 2 or 3 connected guys, a theory which leads to the second main point.
So the second point is that the Outfit is still alive to an extent in whatever form, meaning they either still have a top admin or they dont, and it seems that both factions are still in some "blurry" connection by still having gathering places around Chicago, often visited by younger criminals. Some say that one of those places is Da Lucianos in River Grove, and also some of my sources say that the so-called Chicago/Genovese connection is still alive considering some of their alleged ops with a certain and very well known Chicago company, followed by the recent picture of one of Jimmy Marcellos descendants together with a Genovese soldier.
So we are left again with two final scenarios...one is that the Outfit will be completely dead in 10 or 15 years from now, or they still have or will develop a new top administration that will lead the syndicate as one piece in the future, since all they have to do is make new guys or simply bring their closest of associates at the top of the organization and continue the almost non-existent and "cancerous" CN influence like in ancient times.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Re: Current Chicago Players 2020
This is amazing, thanks for the list, it is interesting to see that Outfit still has 70 people involved in total, and I found it more interesting that to be separate gangs without top management, like 100 years ago, just like Capone's gang and Moran, it will be interesting to see how Outfit will look over the years, maybe if guys like Ricca and Accardo appear, Outfit can "get up", although I think it is difficult, but if they are still active today then nothing is impossible.

One doubt: in illegal activities, are reports that Outfit is involved in gambling, burglaries and narcotics, just these activities?
