Wiseguy wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2020 11:05 am Just for the record, while Family Secrets came down in 2005, it was in 2007 that the FBI (Richard Grant) said, "We have 28 made members of the Chicago Outfit roaming in the Chicagoland area. We have over 100 associates of the Chicago Outfit."

So we can add

James “Jimmy” Cozzo (2007) – Made?
Anthony "Little Tony/The Trucker" Zizzo (2006) (Killed)

Since Zizzo was only missing I don't if he was included in the estimate. So counting up all the losses a a membership of about 50 for 1997 seems accurate.

Pogo
Yes. He was made and I believe it was confirmed in indictments and trial. But I would like a second opinion.

Yup, he and Marcy were both made guys
When those two were indicted, i believe it could be the most impactfull hit on the Outfit.

Pettit's true name was Pettite or Pettiti. I'm not 100% convinced that he was made and Antilliar thinks he wasn't, but I used guys that I have only seen the CCC list as made to fill out the missing holes in the 28.

Rocco may or may not have been made, either, but I've seen an FBI document describing a made member that I'm convinced is referring to Rocco (it was also redacted, meaning that this person may still be alive).

Okay, thanks. Not a big deal, but the the list actually has 29 names so you probably could have taken out one of them anyway.

Yeah, I forgot I had 29 on there. I think I did it more as a "these are the names I came up with, figure out the 28" type of deal. If we come up with other candidates, we could add them. I was thinking maybe Donald Scalise as (I think) Fosco said he was made late in his life.

Yeah, I agree about Scalise. Also, do you have the source of the information about the old Sam Carlisi Crew where whoever it was said there were 5 made guys & 43 men working under them? I believe the Carlisi Crew may have had a couple more guys made who were top assistants to Zizzo in the bookmaking side of it. Frank Bonavolante & James DiDomenico come to mind.

In addition, the term "Associates" & how it is used in Chicago seemed to be more "loose". Guys who were actual crew members working on the street level under "Supervisors" were certainly considered Associates. But sometimes other sources talking about Associates start counting independent bookmakers who pay a tribute to the Crew or they count 25% bookmaking agents who work outside the Crew as Associates or they count bar owners who have poker machines as Associates. Whereas in New York, Associates are recognized as "Being on Record" with someone.
The terminology is used much more loosely from what I have read in Chicago IMO.

The FBI was the source. They were specifically listed as members/associates of the crew although I'm sure their involvement varied (made guys down to small time collectors and wireroom operators). Most of the names were redacted (Bonavolante and DiDomenico are still alive so they were) but I've never seen any other sources indicating that they were made.

Edit: nevermind, I forgot Bonavolante died in prison but I'm sure he was one of the redacted names, anyway.

FWIW I was once told by someone with close contacts in LE that Jimmy Boy Cozzo was not made specifically because he was of Northern Italian ancestry. I can't substantiate this, but thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else has any further info on this.
I'm gonna call this info that I was relayed as false. After checking records, Cozzo was Calabrese (Cosenza) on his father's side and his mother was half-Barese/half-Sicilian.

Any evidence though that Jimmy Boy was in fact made?

He was Chinatown i think so maybe Nick wouldve known if Barbara was made, although the feds once labelled him as a "self-made" guy, whatever that means....

Anyone knows what time period Tony Zizzo switched crews and went with MP? I think he was previously in the Heights mob with the Indiana crew right?

That's kind of a slang term here in America for a someone who came from nothing and became successful.
