Re: Charles Luciano, a lucky boss?
Luciano got that handle playing in card games. The day he survived the attacks he already had the nickname there was a newspaper headline which read "Lucky not so Lucky" so it likely wasn't Lanksy visiting him in the hospital saying "Yeah, that's you
Lucky
"
There's a tongue twister in there.. "How likely could Lucky be labeled Lucky by Lanksy while tabloids leaked Lucky wasn't likely so Lucky." Eh, not bad.

I think the attack he survived to get the moniker Lucky, is the same on the put the scar on his face.
“To know and not to do, is not to know”
Re: Charles Luciano, a lucky boss?
IIRC the papers already referred to him as Lucky after the attack, so it's likely he got the nickname somewhere else.

The guy who did the comic books Chris something covered this in a book he wrote on Lucky. IIRC he didn’t really clear the air on the subject but covered it from all angles and let the reader make up their own minds.
I get it....first rule of fight club.
Re: Charles Luciano, a lucky boss?
The nickname comes from his true last name, Lucania. His nickname was "Charlie Lucky", which is how Valachi and other contemporary figures knew him.
