Danny Leo
Been trying to use the search function, but despite all the great researchers on here -- when it comes to Leo he still seems to have come from nowhere.
Are there any thoughts on Leo's crew origins & successions, rackets, tenure in the admin, etc?

Re: Danny Leo
Likely came from one of the Manhattan-Bronx crews. That's where his activity was. Acting boss on 2005 before his first indictment on 2007. Later indicted in 2009. Charges from those cases (which also involved other members and associates) included gambling, loansharking, and drug trafficking. He lived in a $2 million house in Jersey at the time but I think he sold it.
All roads lead to New York.
Re: Danny Leo
I think there's even conflicting info on his origins. Some say he came up in Jersey, others say he came up in East Harlem, Purple Gang (if you believe in it lol), all that. But then take Prisco for example who is typically identified as a Bronx/Harlem guy, there's some that say he came up in the Village crew.
Re: Danny Leo
Sources say he started to have his own crew in NJ in the early 90s right? Maybe when Bobby Manna went to prison in '89, there was some shuffling in NJ and Chin sent Leo out to New Jersey.
Re: Danny Leo
Read he was around the purple gang in 70tys. So hes most likely from the Harlem bronx side. Not a jersey guy
Re: Danny Leo
Did Cafaro ever mention him?
Anyway, I noticed this: http://www.gangsterbb.net/threads/ubbth ... Post596740 - that mentions he was born and raised out in Jersey, and had a crew by the 80s.. I know its not the FBI or whatever, just interesting.

Re: Danny Leo
However, if by 1999 he was conducting making ceremonies, it could be possible. A lot of changes in positions with ppl going to prison in the late 80s early 90s
Re: Danny Leo
I strongly believe he is a East Harlem guy. Prisco is a Bronx guy.

Re: Danny Leo
manhattan/bronx would make the most sense just because of the lineage of the bosses (acting bosses) they’ve had since Gigante, almost all except Cirillo, coming from that E116th Street Crew.
ever since his name first became ‘known’ which i believe was thanks to a Capeci article, i have read on various forums that he’s from Harlem, Bronx, Jersey and also from Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
i feel like on the RD forum someone said he was from Williamsburg and thats where a lot of his rackets were based. who knows.
then on top of that, to add more confusion, you have the Leo family of Corona, Queens ... there are some “Leo”s with well planted roots there (like the namesake deli and bakery there) coupled with the fact that there have been a other Genovese guys and a ton of LCN guys in general from Corona. adding to the speculation but maybe he could be a Queens guy?
all it would take would be someone else posting an anecdote about him having family on staten island and we’d have speculation on all five boroughs covered. lol. but in all seriousness just because of Leo being a “name” in Corona and frankly not being too popular of a name in and around NY to begin with...maybe Danny Leo has Queens roots?

Re: Danny Leo
Circa late 1970s he was tied to Pasquale Prisco, Angelo Prisco, and Ray Rescildo , of the aforementioned "Purple Gang". Strong correlation with his involvement in narcotics operations. He also had ties to Frank Viserto Jr.
June 13, 1980, Leo was referred to as a member of the Purple Gang. His address was given in Rockleigh , NJ (Bergen County, right on the NJ.NY border). I see that he may still live in the town?
. He was indicted for contempt for refusing to testify about the murder of Maurice Anzisi. Maurice (18) and his girlfriend (17) were found shot to death in the Bronx. Anzisi lived at 308 E 108th St in East Harlem and was the nephew of John Santaniello.

Re: Danny Leo
Being tied to the Purple Gang, makes him most probably originally an East Harlem/Bronx guy. He lives in Boca Raton, Fl now or has a winter home there. He was convicted in 1981 but aquited after a successful appeal. I tend to believe he was made in the late 1980s and rose pretty quickly through the ranks. By 1990, he was a skipper. Since I can´t see where he actually fits in crew wise, it´s possible he was given his own crew of older members who perhaps had previously been under skippers recently deseased or demoted, like Jimmy Alo, combined with younger associates. But that´s just speculation from my part, I don´t see him being an off shoot fron Barney Bellomo´s crew for some reason. John Bologna gave information about his position saying that around 2005, he became the acting boss after a stint as a member of a ruling panel.sdeitche wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 5:18 am Circa late 1970s he was tied to Pasquale Prisco, Angelo Prisco, and Ray Rescildo , of the aforementioned "Purple Gang". There you have it, never printed before.
Re: Danny Leo
The guy from the bronx who was recording merlino and the genovese guys was heard saying leo doesn't want to make anyone the books are closed. This was a conversation with that guy rooster onfrio about proposing one of the younger guys in Springfield mass.
