I think it might be Chicago. They operated with relative impunity with killings until Operation Grayscale and Gambit until Marcy was taken down.

I also heard Kansas City was very violent as well. Then we have Colombos.

What do you guys think? Any chance a place like New England was ever more violent at one time than a place like Chicago?

Philly has probably the most violence overall. From Bruno to Merlino it's back to back violence.

I think philadelphia is the most violent too, I believe that Chicago was violent in the 1920s, and philadelphia reached the height of violence in the 80s and 90s, if we are going to put the families in New York I would put the Colombos since they had three internal wars.

Agreed, though I’d expect the Colombos to be at the top of the charts at least for 1991 alone, assuming violence refers to attempted hits too. I don’t know the exact numbers for the Luccheses for that year though. You had Amuso and Casso in charge and I guess they were fighting a little war of sorts within their family too.

I also agree, by that time Chicagos "licence" to kill was gone, meaning their protection was completely destroyed, while the NY fams were still at large

Isn't it ironic that after the big war in New York between Maranzano & Masseria, all the subsequent wars that followed were "internal civil wars".
Anastasia murder, Gallo/Profaci, The Banana Split, Galante assassination, Castellano assassination, Colombo War & I probably missed a few.

Chicago has over 1000+ unsolved murders. That is A LOT but i think most of those happened in the 20s-30s. Now did Scarfo-Face kill more than Vic and Gas?

Also I’d like to point out that people automatically assume Colombos were the most violent due to three internal wars. Those wars I think culminated in about 30 murders I think. This is just the murders we know about but then again there were many who flipped who gave up many of the murders.

Chicago operated with total impunity until late 80s early mid 90s and still had 1000+ unsolved as I stated before....ummm i believe we could even say the luccheses have just as many murders as the colombos due to vic and gas mostly but also they had jimmy burke, vario crew but on the other hand Colombos had Scarpa....Id put the two families around maybe the same amount but if I had to really have an answer Id place bets on Colombos.

How many people died under Scarfo. I know not that many people died over the Bruno Testa thing. I think maybe 10 people were killed 80-82 just related to that event...still a lot but no “whack jersey order” or “3 colombo wars” casualties..

Lets also consider Chicago has only had one made member flip. I think this is because of people like Angelo LaPietra in charge and people just being so frightened of this organization and its power. Its no regular mob like St Louis or LA. This mob has real fucking power. If they wanted you gone, you were gone. Judges Cops Politicans Assemblyman at the highest levels in the 2nd biggest city..it makes the smaller NY families look like street gangs.
