So my relative was whacked on Dec 26, 1974...

Post by Angelo Santino »

in Partinico. His name was Giuseppe Guliano and my aunt is asking for closure. (Yeah, no shit, I mention I'm trying to make a Detroit chart and all this comes up). She said surnames included were Lo Jacono, Nelia, Enia, Fecarotta, Provenzano, Guarino and I guess this murder gained international fame as the FBI was looking into it. I told her I don't think I'll find the answer but that I'd try. Giuseppe Guliano. Any info I can assist in passing along?

I'm hearing about this for the first time. Scott Burnstein is likely the one to ask but I'll post this here.

I'm thinking about how the names were actually spelled? LoIacono, Giuliano, Neglia and Enea maybe? I've seen the late 1800s birth, death and marriage records for Partinico and have seen the spelling this way. Don't know if it will help in the research so take it for what it is I guess.

Well if it went down in Partinico and it was a Particanese affair it makes sense those names would factor in. I don't know those names if they were assailants or witnesses. I was just trying to make a Detroit chart  .

I asked if it was Lo Jacano or Loiacano and she said "both ways." It's too late to text Scott (10:30 cut off and all) I'll ask him tomorrow. My aunt, like I said prior, ended up marrying the agent who was assigned to tail her and I guess according to him, the FBI was looking into it which makes me think it either garnered int. attention or somehow maybe got brought up in Detroit.

Interesting...

Surname should be Loiacono or Lo Iacono or Lo Jacono. Partinico family underboss was surnamed Lo Iacono

Although the Italian alphabet in modern times does not contain the letter j, the Sicilian alphabet does. This letter and the letter i were interchangeable in earlier dialects of Italian.

The letter j seems to have stopped appearing in handwritten Sicilian surnames around the early 1900s, but the surnames didn’t necessarily or always get changed — see, for example, the current white-pages results found at https://m.paginebianche.it/listing?type ... =partinico.

I texted Scott who said there's someone he could ask. I'm waiting to hear back from him. We'll see what he says.
