Rochester/Bonanno's
I was just reading an old article about Rochester and Tommy Morotta. It stated that because the Rochester Family was pretty much defunct when Tommy got made, that he was made into the Bonanno Family.
Wouldn't that territory revert back to Buffalo? Or even Pittsburg, sense they helped to reestablish the Rochester Family? Do the Bonanno still technically control Rochester?

"Marotta acknowledged on the videotape that he agreed to become one of the local family - then connected to New York's prominent Bonanno crime family - and underwent the standard rite."
Dave is this the line you are referring to? Or is there something else I missed?
I don't take this to mean he was made into the Bonanno family, that's why I'm asking.

'More than 30 people, including a local college professor, awaited a Marotta in a large basement, to ask whether he wanted to officially join the mob, Marotta recalled on the videotape.'
Hardly seems like they were defunct at 30 members.

Johnny, the first few paragraphs of the last article, Upstate Down State, is what I'm referring to. For some reason my phone won't let me copy the paragraphs.
Re: Rochester/Bonanno's
Or was he put with the Bonanno Family the way Frank Valenti was put with L.A.?

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Thanks Pogo
Re: Rochester/Bonanno's
-He names Tom Marotta as a Soldier at this time. Says Marotta was promoted to Capo after Valenti was deposed. Marotta went down in the 1984 indictment. Got out in 1996 and became Bosso of the remnants of the family before being imprisoned in 2000 for trafficking drugs.
How did he get hooked up with the Bonanno Family?

Re: Rochester/Bonanno's
I see now but honestly have no idea what that even means. He was made into Rochester family and became part of Bonanno family lineage?
Maybe at some point the Bonannos became responsible for all the families in that area. It could explain some of the current goings on in the Buffalo/Hamilton area.
Re: Rochester/Bonanno's
Massino or Vitale need to write a book and clarify this stuff!
Re: Rochester/Bonanno's
Who is the “local college professor” who was at the induction ceremony? Was there a college professor who was a made member in Rochester in the 1970s??

I suspect Buffalo and Rochester have a relationship to the Bonannos much like Phila. had with the Gambinos: they run names by them, update them and consult upon them with local ongoings when relevant. JB-SM feud aside, Buffalo and the Bonannos have a long historical relationship so that perhaps that's why they seem to factor into events post 2000 regarding local administrative decisions.

Re: Rochester/Bonanno's
I swear i remember seeing an old Bonanno chart with Rene Piccaretto's name on it. I'm going crazy thinking about where that was though. And also remember seeing a Bonnano solider that wasn't ever mentioned as a part of the Rochester "family" we all know, but a Bonanno member that happened to live in a Rochester suburb. Forget that name too
But regardless, Marotta isn't the first or only time there's been a (even if its loose, rumor, or flat out mistake) connection between the two families
I don't even think it can be explained that the Bonnanos represented Rochester on the commission; afaik they weren't even on the commission when the real shit in Rochester was going down.
This all has to go back to Maggadino and Joe Bonanno without a doubt

Re: Rochester/Bonanno's
If Maggadino and Bonanno really did hate each other, then I can't see Maggadino just giving up part of his territory to his cousin. But let's say that did happen, why would Rochester need the support of Pittsburgh if they had the Bonanno Family in their corner?
