Chris Christie wrote:Question about the Piccolo years. Apart from Licata in Jersey, were there any recognized captains on the street under Piccolo? If no one knows of any that would coincide with Leonetti's narration that it was essentially Anthony Piccolo and Scarfo Jr trying to collect a street tax, as many members were arrested except for a few Bruno era leftoevers who's median age was about 89. So that would make sense unless someone has anything additional. Jersey's another story.
Wouldn't be a surprise if Bocchino, Pungitore, or Sparacio had some kind of acting duty but there is zero info to back that. I know that when Stanfa came back, Sparacio wanted to make Piccolo the boss, himself the underboss, and Stanfa the consigliere, but Stanfa wasn't having any of it. Whether Sparacio was talking like that as a soldier or what, I don't know.

While we're talking about this period, George Fresolone talks about a hit team from Philly heading up to North Jersey to kill Scarfo Jr., but they got intercepted by LE on the way. If that really happened, I would like to know who it was... if it was any of the well-known guys close to Merlino you would think we would have heard this talked about more.
Do you have anymore details about the hit team going to North Jersey? I've never heard about this before. Was it written in Fresolone's book?

I need to dust off my copy of Blood Oath, but yeah, I am pretty sure there is a part where Fresolone talks about this. They weren't charged with any kind of murder conspiracy, but I believe they were intercepted at a train station and busted on weapons charges.

And as Pogo said I meant Anthony Pungitore Sr. He was still active and held a lot of respect, really one of the few older guys who could have had a meaningful impact at the time. When Joe Ciancaglini Sr. went to prison, Pungitore took Joe Jr. under his wing as Chang was very close friends with Ralph Pungitore. I have to wonder if the combo of his brothers going to prison for huge terms and then his best friend getting shot nearly to death influenced Ralph to distance himself from the life.

Unrelated to that, I wonder why it took until the early 1980s for Pungitore Sr. to be made. He was around 60-years-old and had been one of the family's key associates going back to the early 1960s. Close to Angelo Bruno as well. It's very similar to Long John's situation, except in his case we know he had been blocked from membership by Harry Riccobene.

The murders of Pietro Inzerillo and Salvatore and Matteo Sollena was nothing to do with Scarfo. They were killed on orders of Toto Riina. Sollena brothers were nephews of Gaetano Badalamenti.

At one time Larry Merlino and Joe Ligambi were suspected of taking part in the murder of one of the Sollenas (I believe it was dumping the body).

Interesting, i thought the sollena brothers were killed forvstealing money from the gambino brothers?

It's possible for both scenarios to be correct. They stole money and it was part of some attempt to bring Badalamenti in the open.

After 1981 Badalamenti was second only to Buscetta on the hit list.

There was another muder in 1981 (I think) where an Asociate and his wife/girlfriend were found stangled in their home. I forgot their names. Does anyone remember what I'm talking about? My memory is hazy but it may have been tied to the Riccobenes.

Be curious if Michael Micali is related to current associate Dew Micali, who was under Nicodemo and probably with Narducci now.
