Re: Is Pittsburgh alive?
Whatever activity is left outside of NY and Chicago is probably run by guys from NY families, safe to say? With Chicago still holding down whatever they have left on their own turf. I don't think it's much in either case.
Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

Lol...The states and Government literally took the mob to the cleaners and fleeced them of everything ! Sports gambling is legal in 42 states and somewhat legit in 8 others with every type of whacky bet the mob would never go for or think of, lotto , numbers, fish market , garment center etc etc.. All gone , your right, Drugs, Robbery, extortion , and a big one would be Medicaod medicare fraud which if the mob got into on a large scale they could easily make billions, hundreds of billions and on very quick timeGrouchy Sinatra wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 12:17 pm What gets me is how it seems some people actually wish the mob was still active in their region, like it would somehow improve their life. A lot of mob rackets just got taken over by legitimate business. Gambling, loan sharking (high interest loans, payday loans, etc). Wall St. took a page from the mob and bought them out. I know the Genovese was active in real estate scams and that's supposedly what kept them strong but I can't see them doing anything that the legit real estate industry hasn't picked up on and found legal loopholes around. At the end of the day all that's left is drugs.

That's just the thing. If there's legal loopholes why wouldn't corporations just take it over? I mean unless we think the mob is still sending guys out to have a "talk" with Wall Street investors. In the surveillance age and, as you've pointed out, well post- RICO, I don't think that's a possibility. The mob is everywhere now. The United States is a mob family.Bklyn21 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 12:45 pm

Could be connected to that fart that smelled fishy. If we could connect the dots, it could lead somewhere. I sincerely appreciate it if you consider this with an open mind.Wiseguy wrote:Good hell, and people wonder why some of us argue so strenuously against this idea. Because this is where it goes. Surveillance photo of Joe Todaro and Sonny Ciancutti. Word is, they were sharing tips on how to have more regular bowl movements.

I actually agree with you on this. There may be hope after all. It's almost Christmas which is a peaceful time (unless it's Montreal when some people are in mortal danger towards the end of the year).Grouchy Sinatra wrote:What gets me is how it seems some people actually wish the mob was still active in their region, like it would somehow improve their life. Fucking EVERYBODY in Las Vegas does this. "This town was so much better when the mob ran things!"Grouchy Sinatra wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 12:17 pm What gets me is how it seems some people actually wish the mob was still active in their region, like it would somehow improve their life.

As others have said, Pittsburgh fits in with the same situation as Clevenland, Detroit, Kansas, and Buffalo (?), Families that even though they have active members, no longer have a family structure, they would just be gangs or groups that commit drug trafficking, extortion, gambling and loan sharking.

Re: Is Pittsburgh alive?
For most of the nonviable families, even "gang" is a stretch. More like independent criminals who work together occasionally.aleksandrored wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 3:55 pm As others have said, Pittsburgh fits in with the same situation as Clevenland, Detroit, Kansas, and Buffalo (?), Families that even though they have active members, no longer have a family structure, they would just be gangs or groups that commit drug trafficking, extortion, gambling and loan sharking.

This topic left me with a doubt, does anyone know which city is your most active members without a family structure?

A gang could be three imbecile 13 year olds with a pocket knife that mug senior citizens for pocket change. I think your wording is misleading.Ivan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 4:23 pmFor most of the nonviable families, even "gang" is a stretch.
