Hello all
I was going through a large report from 1968, and in the Bonanno family section it talks about the Hank Perrone murder, among the other casualties of the Bonanno war at the time. An informant says that it almost certainly was a man named Martin "Bobo" Barberer, seemingly an associate of Frank Mari. Has anyone come across that name before? I looked through MF, and the New York Times archives and found nothing.
I imagine there won't be much on him, but given how close Perrone was to Bill Bonanno, and possibly Joe, I would imagine this Barberer must have been trusted by Mari and the Sciacca faction.

Here's the actual paragraph
Re: Sam "Hank" Perrone murderer
He was a Bay Ridge guy who died in Florida in 2003. I also see that he lived or had property in Dutchess County, not far from Wappingers Falls coincidentally. His father looks to have been a Russian Jew.

Good find! I wonder if he stuck around after Mari disappeared.
Another file mentions another Mari gunman who wasn’t Italian, a Puerto Rican named Louie.

Interesting that the Bonanno's who were known back then to be the most "traditional" and picky about the ethnic origins of their members, had associations with Jews and Hispanics that were close enough for them to be their gunmen.
