It's never come out what the beef was between them, but as Chucky said, the meeting was set up to discuss issues with both of them. John Gambino basically told Stefanelli in the bathroom that Joe Ligambi was a good guy but they couldn't do anything to help him.Rocco wrote:I don't remember that? In my opinion, that comment is in reference to Ligambi subtly asking to clip Nicky Scarfo Jr and if the Gambinos would back up them once a shit storm ensued. The beef with the DeCavalcantes may have been a minor issue whereas the Scarfo/Lucchese issue was the reason why there was a meeting in the first place.B. wrote:It's never come out what the beef was between them, but as Chucky said, the meeting was set up to discuss issues with both of them. You could be right... was there more context? I just assumed it was Gambino not wanting to get involved with any of Philly's issues. It does sound like they wanted the Gambino's backing to nullify the legitimacy of Scarfo Jr's button, and I have a hard time believing it was because they wanted to use him as an earner... maybe they just wanted to take him to dinner at Dante and Luigi's.Chucky wrote:In my opinion, that comment is in reference to Ligambi subtly asking to clip Nicky Scarfo Jr and if the Gambinos would back up them once a shit storm ensued. Re: DeCavalcante Bust
Well the Gambinos sent some of their heavy hitters to this meeting so I think they were willing to get involved, but only up until a point. I doubt Gambino would be anywhere close to comfortable backing a Merlino/Ligambi sanctioned hit of a made Lucchese member, especially in this climate. The main beef seemed to be the Luccheses allowing Scarfo Jr to approach Philly members/associates and Philly wanted this to stop, but the more they discussed the more it was revealed that Ligambi had other motives, i.e., not recognizing Scarfo Jr's membership so they could kill him and wanting support from Gambino in order to do this.B. wrote:Chucky wrote:B. wrote:You could be right... was there more context? There also seemed to be, based of the transcripts and detention/sentencing memos, a lot of familiarity among the Gambino and Philly guys, examples would be Trucchio attending Eric Esposito's wedding and wanting to be reintroduced to him as "a friend", references to Staino's wedding, and name dropping of several Scarfo era members (Joe Pungitore, Charlie Iannece, etc.) who had just been releases or were soon to get out.

In 93 or 94 a Gambino associate tried to extort a Philly connected restaurant in either Union or Jersey city. He was stabbed.. It was implied at the time that Philly asked the Gambinos to lay off, and they paid them no mind and so Philly responded. But this was just an associate.

Re: DeCavalcante Bust
That was when Nicky Olivieri and Louie Fazzini stabbed and beat Gambino Associate Mikey Falzone to near death. Falzone was not a made guy. He went to prison for drug dealing which was what he was a drug dealer from North Plainfield I believe. A karate guy and tough guy with a poney tail..is that possible? I guess..look I believe he somehow wound up under Joe Butch's kid? The tall guy who drove Gotti around for a bit. Falzone is out not sure if he was made or not. But someone on the other forum says he was spotted hanging on Mulberry street which is funny since he is not a NY guy by any means.Chris Christie wrote:In 93 or 94 a Gambino associate tried to extort a Philly connected restaurant in either Union or Jersey city. If you peel the layers of the onion it seems it all Goes back to the deadly fued between Chucky Merlino and Scarfo Sr. Ligambi being close to Chucky and Joey Merlino vs Nicky Scarfo Jr. The fued continues. The hit on Scarfo Jr need to be complete still. If you read Leonettis book there is a part at the end where Scarfo Jr is out of jail and running a restaurant south of AC all stressed because Mazzone and Merlino are trying g to shake him down. Well it seems Scarfo Jr never forget this once he got made into the Luccheses,, (as well as getting shot) and used his status as Luccheses member to fuck with Ligambi and Co. In any means he could.B. wrote:You could be right... was there more context? I just assumed it was Gambino not wanting to get involved with any of Philly's issues. The Blimp is an accurate nickname for Anthony Stango.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: DeCavalcante Bust
He is getting off easy with 5yrs. But his career within the Decavs as a hanger on is over. His old man will die in prison along with his older allies he was arrested with and when the Blimp gets out the made guy they wanted to kill will have Blimp banished or beatin. Its all over for this kid. He will spend the rest of his life on that couch in Brick twp eating himself to death. The ultimate Walmart customer..lol
