Anthony Scarpati

Post by IrishDave »

According to the Carmine Persico book Scappy was a childhood friend of Carmine and a loyalist. Larry Mazza, in his book, says that he was a Joey Gallo loyalist but was able to fall back in line because of Persico. Who's right? Was he active in the Colombo wars?

I believe it was in "Deal with the Devil" Scarpa says that he had a special deal with Scarpati because Scarpa didn't want the heat that being a Capo would bring. Was Scarpati just a figure head?

He wasn't strictly a figurehead since he held serious power and influence in the family, but he was still in Greg Scarpa's shadow from what I can gather, and I can't remember where I read this - either Larry Mazza's book, or Deal with the Devil - but Scarpa would apparently "abuse" Scarpati in front of everybody, no fucks given.

Scappy grew up with Junior. They were part of a street gang together as kids. And when Junior whacked that kid that his brother Allie did a life bid on, Scappy was right along side that night in Prospect Park. Scappy did some time too as a kid. And when he got paroled, Junior immediately hooked him right up into the crew. THATS how it went down.

Scarpati seems like an interesting guy. Childhood friend of Jr, captian, and acting boss but Scarpa "abused" him in public. I'm sure guys have been killed for less. Is there any truth to Scarpati staying with/ being loyal to the Gallo's after Jr went back to the Family?

Don’t believe the Scarpa “abused” Scappy. That’s all bullshit for the books. Scappy didn’t take shit from anyone. And he had position. Fuck Scarpa! He was NOT the end all be all that people make him out to be. Backstabbing, treacherous guy to be sure. But he ain’t fuckin with Scappy!

Well, I can't believe Scappy would have ever abused Scarpa either. Greg was selling drugs right under his nose and Scappy didn't react, even though Deal with the Devil reported Scappy didn't tolerate drugs.

As members, one CANNOT abuse another. A Skipper if anything has rank. But if they’re close or even if there not, but repeat one another, they’ll typically sweep it under the rug. And EVERYBODY in brooklyn knew Scarpa dealt drugs. It was an open secret. So long as the hierarchy eats, often times with certain guys it’ll be tolerated. But remember what I say. Scarpati was no punk! So Greg Scarpa or no Greg Scarpa, Scappy ain’t takin anyone’s “abuse” or bullshit! Remember, ANYBODY can pull a trigger. Scarpa wasn’t the tough guy around..... although so books and stories make it sound that way. NOT TRUE! He bleeds like anybody else..... and we saw when they shot his eye out right?...... RIGHT!

Because I’m from New York City..... and from the streets all my life. And knew many of these guys. I’m not a kid either. Been around decades and have rubbed elbows with knockaround guys since I was a kid. Age wise, many were contemporaries of mine that’s how.
