Unsolved Possible DeCavalcante Mob Hit in Jersey

Only way i see the case being solved is if someone flips. It’s a pretty tough case since there’s so many suspects. (Russians, Colombos, DeCavalcantes)

it came out that Chalem was working with the fbi when he died. he was tied to Abramo and also a Russian guy from Brooklyn named Michael Vax. I don't think this will ever be solved. I think we have a better chance of the Langano hit being solved when someone flips

Anyone know whos in Abramo’s crew?

In 1999 his crew members were Louis "Louie Eggs" Consalvo, Gregory Rago and possibly Gaetano “Guy” Alessi. Plus Frank D'Amato as a proposed member. It wasn't a very large crew even by DeCavalcante standards. It is unkown if he is still a Capo or even active.

This hit and the Langano hit seem almost unsolvable that have happened in the past twenty years here in Jersey. I’m almost convinced Bergen County Law Enforcement is the reason why Langano got clipped. Go Devils

There's an article from the Wall Street Journal back in 1999 that strongly implies the involvement of Russian gangster brothers Boris and Michael Vax. This is probably the most likely scenario because you'd have to figure if the DeCavs had been involved that somebody connected to them would have flipped by now. Both Vax brothers are still alive, btw, and have been charged with numerous other crimes over the years but always seem to escape with minimal sentences.

Yeah unfortunately there were a lot of silly mistakes like that in the book. I was really disappointed with that book when I first got it.


As for this hit I doubt the DeCavalcantes or Colombos were involved considering how both families would be plagued by rats in the following years and nothing has come out on them being responsible.

Abramo was heavily involved in Stock fraud at that time period, he could have done it on the sneak to protect his stock fraud rackets. Just saying no one knows what happened and we may never know

Exactly. For the Colombos, court testimony has Tommy Gioeli's crew as being the only guys in the family committing hits for Allie Persico and the late 1990s/early 2000s administration. They were the go-to. The only hit that wasn't linked to them was the embarrassing, botched drive-by of Joe Campanella in 2001, although Giovanni Floridia (the wheelman) even testified that Allie Persico and Jackie DeRoss wanted to wait until the Long Island Guys (GIoeli's crew) were ready, and Calabro testified that he was tasked with the Campanella hit until Vincent DeMartino went ahead and did it himself.

A question about the DeCavalcante family, sorry if it's slightly off-topic:

Concerning Abramo and other DeCavalcante members (Stefano Vitabile, Giuseppe Schifilliti etc), convicted in 2003 in the racketeering conspiracy centered around the D'Amato, LaRasso and other murders; I read their life sentences were overturned in 2008 and a new trial was ordered, but did this new trial ever take place at all? Are they currently all free?

They all took plea deals if I remember correctly. They have since been released.
