NO MOB JOB SECURITY!....... EVER!

Post by maxiestern11 »

Aaaaaaaaahh!....the good old days!
How many times have you heard that statement mentioned? About how years ago all the Families were so much better off. How the Families were more secure, more cohesive and united, and how positions were more stable; Boss, Underboss, Captains, Soldiers.... even Associates! That they had solid positions and established rackets that provided great incomes!...... literally making millionaires out of legions of street toughs.
———————-
So many young street guys thought to themselves.....
Yeah, it may be a bit dangerous, but if I play it smart and savvy, with my balls and brains ........ I’ll be fine!
———————-
How the crews worked liked well-oiled machines, not like today where there’s so much havoc. Skippers and button guys getting pinched and “rolling over” every two minutes. How there was more “structure”, organization and how everything in general just worked better!
-
How Omertà was sacred and adhered to!
Crews bosses kept positions for decades!
Guys all got along or sat-down and worked it out!
Rarely did a guy get hit if he followed the rules!
There was a lot more rackets and money to be made!
Nobody got out of line for fear of getting “clipped”!
...... and so on, and so on!
How you’d move up into solid position and be “buffered” from danger and protected because now you were a made “button guy”!.... and “insider”!
—————
Lol.....not quite!............. I’m calling bullshit!
-
Because if we take a bit closer look and really evaluate things. And not blatantly except mob history at face value and not just gloss over the status quo, maybe reading about one or two mob guys lives, but step back and look at the whole mosaic, we begin to see that “mob life”, at any time in history that we chose to review, reveals to us that generally speaking, it sucked!
-
And “rarely” was “The Life” actually cracked up to be what people (mob guys and lay persons alike) portrayed, or imagined it to be!
-
Lots of guys drank the “cool-aid”..... believing all those tall-tales “hook, line and sinker”!
-
Many a generation went down the tubes that way!
———
Below is a quick chart I put together of the hierarchy for the Five Families and their basic chronology from 1931 through the present day. The stability (or more like the instability) of various top “positions” - the three man hierarchies!
——
Note: [I did not feel it important for the post to list every single acting boss, interim leader, underboss, captain, acting capo, etc.... that would have been an impossible task, and not needed to make my point. But if you think about some of the other guys over the decades not listed, it becomes even more apparent and obvious]
-
At any point in mob history, there were/are very few “happy endings”. Most mob “careers” in any era, ended quite badly!

———————————-
And remember fella’s, these are the “BOSSES” and their top guys! The “cream de la crem”!
....... the picture doesn’t get any rosier at the lower rungs on the ladder. In fact it becomes worse because the “rank and file” had to take orders and follow them blindly, regardless if they were logical orders or stupid and nonsensical, subjecting the soldier or associate (or captain for that matter), to life and death situations off the whim of some asshole boss who maybe didn’t like the soldier for some reason, and wanted to put him through the ringer! Or wanted to sweat him over a personal gripe or jealousy! ...... or was just a plainly an “ignorant” uneducated guy with very poor judgement who thinks he’s a genius! Lol
-
It happened more than many realize, and often made for bad blood and very poor “working conditions” so to speak for life in the Mafia!
————————————-
For my money; Gagliano, Lucchese, Costello (especially), Gambino and Profaci fared the best..... all died in bed with their shoes off! Multi-millionaires!

Great post and summation. Certainly paints a bleak picture doesn't it?

IMO; the racketeers, mafiosi and gangsters who actually were successful, from a common sense logical standpoint are probably (for the most part), guys that the public has NEVER heard of! ..... or in the alternative, had just a few minor brushes with the law, keeping a lower keyed profile during their lives and careers!
-
If your a rackets guy...... and you’ve got a few million or better to show for your efforts, and have never gone to prison, or if you have, in the alternative, only served one minor term of a year, of maybe one 2-5 year bit but no more! ......AND you’ve lived large; beautiful home and cars, businesses and maybe a few properties, finest restaurants and clothes, vacations, best schools for your kids, etc, etc! (and were not a vicious guy going out of your way to hurt guys)..... and you got a nice bundle to leave as an inheritance to your family for generations to come.
-
I’m my book? ...... your a success story! And I tip my hat to you!
-
But to be perfectly honest, those guys are far and few between! ....... and the ones that are, are often times faced with envy and jealousy from other mob guys who didn’t have the “talent” to accomplish the same thing!
-
.......... Sick! But it’s oh so true! .... The Green Eyed Monster! More than one guy has met his maker for that very reason! And LE always attribute it to a “gang war” or some other baloney for the papers. But it came down to jealousy, plain and simple! Just like regular life, there’s always a jealous person around. Except in regular life they usually don’t “clip” you! Lol

Frank Costello (83): never did big time, died a multi-zillionaire, and lived like a prince his whole life! Had a home in Sands Points - simply beautiful and another off Central Park, owned Wall Street real estate.
THATS wealth and success! Died in bed at 83!
—-
Gaetano Lucchese (67): another multi-zillionaire, well respected and sought out his whole life, lived very very well, did a minor bit in his youth, died in bed (unfortunately a bit young)..... passed vast wealth forward to his family!
—-
Giuseppe Profaci (62): his wealth is legendary, 300-acre NJ estate, very nice Brooklyn home, Florida residence, largest importer of tomato paste and olive oil in the US, etc etc, died with his boots off (another who died young though) .... passed assets down through the generations!
—-
Giuseppe Bonanno (97): despite being deposed and all the trouble with the Banana War, was a very rich man, revered, lived a very good life after his mob years..... dying in bed at 97! (He outlived them all)
—-
Carlo Gambino (74): need I say more? Died in bed, his wealth was immerse and handed down to his kids and their kids, vast resources, did a short alcohol bit as a young man..... otherwise another “wise” man!
———-
There are of course many, many others of lesser public prominence, who’ve done exceedingly well in the mob, but these five I think are representative of some of the more highly successful of the early era mob guys.
——
But remember, for every one like the above, there were fifty + who ate hand to mouth, never achieving any wealth of note and served lots of jail time!
-
———-
BTW: for my money, I always leaned toward Costello being among the savviest of the savvy!

Cheech is refering to Maxiestern AKA Mobfan/Stern/GiacomoVacari (and God knows how many other names) who is practically spamming every thread now.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Maxie's posts are really great info. Why are members targeting someone who regularly posts good info? That's some foul shyt. Don't be a hater to a good contributor.
