I don't think its him due to his age being off. Also I believe he lived in Belleville before buying the Toms River home not livingston like the obit says...

It´s confusing. Both "our" DeVita and the one who passed back in March were formerly of Livingston, NJ. And they share the same first and last names. What are the odds for that? The year of birth shown in the obitaury is off though. "Our" Devita was born in 1935 or 1931. (1935 according to the attachment posted above but 1931 according to newspaper articles on him.)
There you have it, never printed before.

The Genovese Capo Silvio spends the winters in Boynton Beach FL. Really only in NJ for Summer and Spring. If there is someway to search that maybe we can see who is who ..?
OR maybe the criminal Silvio bumped off some poor sucker and put him in a coffin said it was him to throw off the feds lol ..?

Speaking of DeVita, one of the more interesting things on the mary ferrell site that I've seen is the doc about Ralph Rosania, who was convicted with DeVita in that murder case, being inducted by Vincenzo Piazza in a prison making ceremony in 1956. Rosania has never been listed as a member elsewhere and he continued to live in Newark after his release from prison. Informants said that Piazza headed an organization in prison, but Piazza himself was apparently a Cosa Nostra member in New Jersey (def an early candidate for the Newark family), so the question is if he had authority to make members in prison or if he was just running his own bogus organization within prison. George Insinnia, a witness to this ceremony and a member of this apparent group, was also from Newark.

It's not him, HK. It's a cousin.

"Our" DeVita (I like that  ) is about 85. Plus, this obit says formerly of Livingston. "Our" DeVita was born in Sicily. And I've never seen an obit in my life where an American who was born in Italy didn't have it mentioned in his/her obit.

All moot, anyway. It's definitely not him. Westside Sil is alive and well. And Rocco is right about his spending his winters in Boynton Beach. He has a place in Ocean Ridge.

I said it on the other board, Sonny. It's not mutually exclusive to the Mafia. I hate to use a fucking movie as a reference, but it's like the wedding voiceover in "Goodfellas" wth all the Peters, Pauls, and Maries. Italians are big on tradition. And naming male children for their grandfather is a big one. So with a big family, you could have half a dozen cousins with the same name.

Here's what I posted at the Junior Site:

Perfect example: A lot of people (even the "researchers") get confused about Farby (the guy who was acting for Vince when he went away in '97). Farby died young a few years later.

Anyway, Farby's real name was Frank Serpico. His Father's name was also Frank Serpico, and his nickname was also Farby. His Father had a first cousin, also named Frank Serpico, also nicknamed Farby, and he had a son, also named Frank Serpico, also nicknamed Farby.

So you had two first cousins, and two second cousins, all named Frank Serpico, all nicknamed Farby, and all involved in the Genovese family. If you didn't know them, or of their family, it would be nearly impossible for an outsider to comprehend. The stupid Feds couldn't tell them apart for years. And that's not to mention the two Barneys ;).

My father and his cousin both graduated high school together. Same name. Different middle names. One Andy B and the other Andy A
Me, great uncle, dad and two cousins all same name. Same town. I know other examples of friends. It's not all that weird in a big Italian family.
My grandfather is the youngest of 17 kids (2 died from polio early). They all named there kids the same thing.
John. Andy. Benny. Frank. Etc etc. etc.
Sorry. Wrong Frank

That makes a hell of a lot of sense now. I knew a kid who came from an Italian family who's brother was named after his grandfather and he himself was named after his father but with a different middle name so he technically wasn't "junior". You Italians I swear, no wonder you all need nicknames
