Off the top of my head..

The Genovese associates that used the Crips to try to hit neighborhood tough guy Joseph Bonelli.

While not necessarily a planned hit, Colombo captain Anthony Russo held a card game in the Bronx after shutting down a competitor nearby and had instructed his guys to be armed and ready to “shoot the shit” out of his competition should they have tried to retaliate during their game

In the Tommy Shots thread Gohn had mentioned that Teddy Jr also had planned to whack out George Fanelli as well. Hoping my man Gohn has any more detail regarding that planned hit?
That makes two attempted hits on Bonnelli - one from Basciano (Bonanno), the other from Debello (Genovese).

In the Basciano book it said that a Bonanno crew went and shot up Bonelli's house.

There was another blurb in that book about Basciano having committed and "under the radar" murder on Francis Lewis Blvd at a social club in Whitestone, Queens. No one knows who, and no one knows precisely where. It was in the 90s though.
Good post i never knew that info. In the book did it say who shot up Bonelli’s house?
Thanks. I had that wrong. It was apparently Bonelli who shot up somones house, and also the "Villa Somona" restaurant. Someone at the restaurant owed the Genovese 8k. A link from cosanostra news ( take with a grain if salt, but I think it's in the he Vinny gorgeous book too)

Not post 2000 but in the mid 90’s there were 30 + attempts made to murder Bonanno associate Richard Guiga by both the Luke’s and the Bo’s. Guiga would be murdered in late 1997.

gohnjotti wrote: Mon Jun 03, 2019 4:32 am Colombo Family Post-2000 Murder Conspiracies. This list may not be complete, but it is all I can think of at the moment.

Jan. 2000 - Colombo soldier Dino 'Big Dino' Calabro was inducted into the Colombo family during this month, after which he was placed in Colombo capo Ralph Lombardo's crew in order to "get close" to him and then assassinate him. This murder was ordered by acting boss Alphonse Persico, who feared Lombardo was an informer, and passed through capo Thomas Gioeli. The contract was later passed onto acting capo Paul 'Paulie Guns' Bevacqua. The murder contract lasted until 2002 and was presumably cancelled after Lombardo was arrested for loansharking in May 2003, dispelling the notion that he could have been an informer.

Jan. 2000 - Colombo soldier Dino 'Big Dino' Calabro was tasked with murdering an individual named "Fat Tommy" following in induction into the crime family. The murder was ordered by consigliere Joel 'Joe Waverly' Cacace, of whom "Fat Tommy" was a partner with in a computer business.

July 16, 2001 - Colombo soldier Joseph 'Joe Campy' Campanella was shot and wounded by Colombo soldier Vincent 'Chickie' DeMartino and associate Giovanni 'John the Barber' Floridia. The attempted murder was authorized by acting boss Alphonse 'Allie Boy' Persico and underboss John 'Jackie' DeRoss over tensions between Campanella and the crime family over the murder of William 'Wild Bill' Cutolo and fears that Campanella would become an informer.

May 25, 2004 - Colombo soldier Theodore Persico Jr. and associate Edward Garofalo Jr. sought permission from Colombo soldier Craig Marino to murder Marino's driver and Colombo associate George Fanelli and, along with Colombo soldier Daniel 'the General' Persico, associates Carmine L. Persico, Walter Samperi and cooperating witness Kenny Gallo, prepared and cleaned pistols to be used in the assassination.

Jun. 2005 - Colombo associate John Capolino discussed a desire to murder an associate of Bonanno soldier Michael 'Mike the Butcher' Virtuoso, and bragged about chasing him with a rifle and a blackjack. Capolino later received authorization from Colombo acting capo Michael Catapano and Colombo soldier Anthony 'Flemmo' Famulari to commit the murder.

2006 - Colombo underboss John 'Sonny' Franzese allegedly met with the Gambino family's Howard Beach crew to discuss the murder of former Gambino acting boss John 'Junior' Gotti due to his public declarations that he had quit the mob. This murder attempt was likely never attempted or even planned.

Jun. 2006 - Colombo associate Christopher Curanovic planned the murder of a man who killed Curanovic's brother by discussing who would commit the murder, Curanovic's alibi, and the "perfect place" to commit the murder. Colombo acting capo Michael Catapano agreed to seek authorization from Colombo underboss John 'Sonny' Franzese to commit the murder in January of 2007. Curanovic asked cooperating witness and proposed Colombo member Gaetano 'Guy' Fatato if he would commit the hit, to which Fatato agreed.

Late 2006 - Colombo soldier Michael 'Mickey' Souza conspired to murder Bonanno associate Hector Pagan. The plot came after Souza's attempts to extort ABar, a Staten Island construction company, of which Pagan was affiliated. Souza was arrested in Dec. 2006 before the murder could take place, although he showed off a silenced pistol to a cooperating witness that he planned to use.

Jan. 2007 - Colombo underboss John 'Sonny' Franzese' discussed murdering his son, cooperating witness John Franzese Jr., and asked cooperating witness Gaetano 'Guy' Fatato to be a member of the hit team.

Jan. 2008 - Following a multitude of subpoenas, Colombo soldier Joseph 'Joey Caves' Competiello was ordered by Colombo acting boss Thomas 'Tommy Shots' Gioeli to murder Lucchese associate Anthony "Tigger" Dellavecchia, because they suspected Dellavecchia of cooperating with the government about the 1994 murder of Joseph Miccio. Competiello sat outside Dellavecchia's last known address in order to keep tabs on him for an upcoming murder, but he could not locate Dellavecchia.

Jan. 2010 - Colombo ruling panel member Theodore 'Skinny Teddy' Persico Jr. provided a list of people whom he suspected of being cooperating witnesses to Colombo associate James Bombino and other co-conspirators, in contemplation of a future arrest. Bombino stated in a consensually recorded conversation that Persico Jr. intended to go "out in a blaze."

July 2, 2010 - Colombo associate Nunzio 'Nicky' DeCarlo drove the getaway in the murder/robbery of Lucchese associate James Donovan. This was not a planned murder conspiracy.

Aug. 2010 - Colombo acting capo Anthony 'Big Anthony' Russo ordered his crew, including Colombo soldier Joseph 'Joey' Savarese, associates Ilario 'Fat Larry' Sessa and Giuseppe 'Pooch' DeStefano, to load up with weapons and "shoot the shit" out of members of a Gambino family-protected gambling club. Russo expected Gambino associates to enter Russo's card game after Savarese assaulted the rival gambling club's operator, who was under the protection of Gambino ruling panel member Joseph 'Sonny' Juliano.
Gohn, I wonder if the George Fanelli you listed is the son or nephew of Colombo soldier Edward (Eddie the Killer) Fanelli from East New York from years ago? Do you have any knowledge or onfo on him?

Unfortunately Maxie, I have little-to-no information on either George or Eddie Fanelli. Do you know which crew Eddie the Killer came from? That might help narrow it down.

If not, then i wouldn’t bet money on a direct blood relation. Kenny Gallo recalled George Fanelli being a bone-headed wannabe desperate for attention. Stole jewellery from Teddy Jr.’s girlfriend according to Kenny, which was why he was marked for death. Kenny wasn’t surprised when he found out about such a thing, he recalled, because Fanelli was too eager and stupid to resist a score, even if it was the girlfriend of Persico Jr.

I’m not certain but I know he came out of East NY, and actually shot a guy to death in a tavern as a young man (that’s how he got the name The Killer), Paulie Vario, a kid also at that time was bar tending and dragged the victim out of the bar and propped him up against a building outside so as not to lose their liquor license by the cops finding a dead body in the bar.
-
Fanelli lammed it, but eventually was caught and got life I believe ..... not certain but I seem to remember the story that way.
-
Another thing..... although nobody had typically mentioned it, I think Fanelli might have disappeared and been killed, Or straight out got shot to death in later years!
-
I’ve never read it anywhere about his death so I’m not 100% on it!

Interesting, do you have a biography on Eddie the Killer?

Also, you could be right in terms of a relation between the two, because kids of wiseguys doing life often are pretty “wannabe” and eager to impress - i.e., Vito Guzzo, and that John guy whose surname escapes me. He took part in the Joseph Scopo hit and got a life sentence in ‘99.

You are thinking of John "Death before Dishonor" Pappa.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

I’ve got another key name for you - John Matera! I think the kid is doing life or something. I wonder if he’s the son of Johnny Irish Matera. Who of course got killed. I know Johnny lived in Brooklyn with his wife and kid years ago. I wonder if this is his kid?

John Matera is due to be out in 2023, after pleading guilty to luring informant Frank Hydell to his death. Matera had a good thing going for awhile, in charge of a large crew of burglars and stick-up artists who traveled West to commit their crimes. They made $600,000 in seven months, and used the cash to buy late-model cars and fix them with stolen parts. Matera also partnered with Colombo associate Anthony Ferrara in a cross-country marijuana trafficking scheme. If he remained close to Guerra, Ferrara and the Persicos, I imagine he'll be on a fast track to getting made upon his release.

I personally don't think he is the son of Johnny Irish. Court papers never made note of that, nor did Gang Land News or any other outlet. Furthermore, he was never referred to as John Matera Jr., and wasn't Johnny Irish based in Florida?

Johnny was born on Mulberry St., moved to Queens at one point. Got caught in Florida in a $2M heist... got life. Got out in ten. Stayed in Florida and became the boss down there for the Colombo’s. But his ex-wife lived in Brooklyn. They had a kid together. A boy I think. It just might be him! Matera is not s common name. And a “John Matera”? You know what I mean?
