JD, you say that the books were officially reopened in 1976. But what about Vincent Cafaro´s statement that he was made in 1974 with Patsy Genese? The only explanation of this would be that Cafaro (just like Michael Franzese) was wrong about the year. What is your opinion on this?
In 1988 he said he was made in 1974, then at a trial in 1991 he supposedly puts the date at 1971. For other CWs a good way to narrow it down is when they reference events with fixed dates to compare it to (ie Salvatore Vitale confirming he was made after the Bonventre murder putting it in 1984). I'd like to read more info from Cafaro to see how well his recall is when it comes to dates.
It definitely looks like Cafaro was not made in 1974, but sometime after 1975. According to his own testimony:

"He [Tony Buckaloo] took me to the El Cortile [Il Cortile] Restaurant on Mulberry Street where Buckaloo and I went downstairs to meet with Funzi Tieri..."

I found out that Il Cortile was not in business until 1975 and that the location had previously been a bedding shop before it became a restaurant.

"Mr. Esposito, 47 years old, began his duties nine years after his uncle bought the Mulberry property in 1975. The family turned the bedding shop on the ground floor into a restaurant serving traditional Italian fare such as penne alla vodka, as well as its signature lobster ravioli dish."

For the Colombos.

Joseph Peraino Jr. and Gerard Clemenza for the 1977 Franzese ceremony. Thanks to JD for this.

For the Bonannos.

2013-Mid 2014: (Could include the early 2013 ceremony)
-10 new members

Recent months: (It is possible that this number includes the inductees from the 2014 ceremony)
Frank “Frankie Boy” Salerno
+11 new members

If the Bonanno's can make 21 guys in 2 years I can only imagine how many guys were made by families who actually have their shit together and haven't had any big cases in the last several years.
Looks like the NYC mafia is a long way from dying off. Plenty of guys out there who still want the button. On the conservative side say the other NY families only made half the amount as the Bonannos thats 60 newly made guys in last 2+ years. It's crazy if you try to imagine how many guys they might have made in the last 4, 6 or 8 years.

There is likely some overlap between the two. It is probably less than 20.

The Bonannos have been rebuilding, though, whereas the Genovese and Gambinos are larger and probably less desperate to recruit new members.

I believe the economic recession did a lot to help turn guys who were otherwise on the fence back toward the life. No info to back that up, but it seems likely enough to me.

I wonder if any of those new guys were born in the late 70's early 80's? That early millenial generation had it real good, got out of college when the economy wasn't too bad, than when they're still young enough some fall onto hard times in the recession.

Bonnano's making so many guys recently just shows how bad they're struggling, it's the same with the Colombo's, it's like they'll make anyone.

Gambino's, Westside & luke's are more stable and selective.

Are they still requiring guys to make they're bones? I wonder how they're inducting 20 new guys with very few hits taking place

no they haven't been doing that for quite some time, it's more about earning.
