It’ll be interesting to see if barney bellomo ends up beating the fed’s investigations. He’s a very smart guy and has kept a low profile for quite some time. Bosses dying free men isn’t as common as it once was but it’s still possible.

Ligambi is a more recent example of a Boss who has beaten the Feds multiple times.

Didn't Ligambi do like 2 years when he was held without bail during his trials?

Bellomos course was imprisoned while he was the Acting Boss.

How many years of his life sentence did Ligambi serve before his murder conviction was overturned?

Jack Tocco was pretty successful. Did three years total. Was boss for 35 years. Spent the last ten free.

Yes Ligambi was held without bail but he beat the Feds at two trials and also had his murder conviction overturned on appeal. Pretty impressive run

He may be one of the best examples because his tenure coinceded with increased LE scrutiny. Being boss for 35 years and gettting away with doing just three years at a time the feds where going after all the families is beating the system in my book.

Ligambi too.

A little bit of similarity...Ricca was the Outfits boss from 1931 until his imprisonment in 1943 and later he was the top boss from 1947 until his death in 1972. As for Accardo, from 1947 until 1956 was the boss, from 1957 until 1972 held some sort of advisery role and from 1973 until 1992 or until his death, he was the top boss

Ligambi had a great run from 99-2011. Idk how active he is now but he was def one of the smarter mafia bosses Philly has had. He kept a low profile, focused mainly on making money and was respected and feared by pretty much everyone.

Ligambi was the poster boy for “making money not headlines” Even though there were actually about 5 murders on his watch (Johnny Gongs, Turchi, Long John, Maniscalco , and Gino DiPietro) I know for DiPietro he was acting boss and on trial but still on his watch. Plus throw in the hit Ligambi was the actual triggerman on (Frankie Flowers) that was overturned on appeal and he’s had one of the best runs in recent time!

Uncle Joe is also actually a pretty polite, classy, and nice guy from what I have seen and heard. For what it’s worth....

I can see Ligambi “riding off into the sunset” so to speak. I can’t say the same about the rest of Philly’s leadership.

John LaRocca of Pittsburgh died a free man in 1984, he was indicted back in the late 60's for Teamster Pension Fund infiltration, no conviction, did not serve time. IRS Agent Andrew Susce was after him for years, LaRocca was also pardoned by Governor of Pennsylvania regarding deportation. Mike Genovese, LaRocca's successor, served short time for refusing to answer questions on a Senate Committee investigation in the late 50's but died a free man in 2006. Prior to LaRocca, Frank Amato Sr. served as Boss from 1937-1956, he died a free man in 1973 as Consigliere but was indicted with LaRocca and Mannarino along with some Detroit and NY guys in the Teamster Pension Fund case. Pittsburgh had 3 bosses over a 70- year period, all of them had reigns of 20+ years.

NJShore is right on the money. Uncle Joe is a class guy and was the right guy at the right time. Knew the history and politics and was respected across the board...and didn't make any major move without first clearing it with Joey, as the Skins wiretap and trial made clear. Beating that trial may be the 2nd best thing that could have happened to him, gave him separation from his acting boss role and may allow him to live out his final days without the feds down his throat. Obviously beating a life sentence on retrial is 2nd to none....
