Bosses who beat the feds
Though it’s not too common, some lcn bosses manage to die free men (and not in an assassination) despite investigations by the federal government. The first couple of bosses that come to my mind are Don Carlo,Tommy Lucchese, and John Difronzo. Most bosses who beat federal investigators were semi retired such as Difronzo. Which other lcn bosses managed to avoid dying in prison?
Wise men listen and laugh, while fools talk.

Obviously Joe Bonanno, Joseph Profaci, Paul Ricca and Tony Accardo, Frank Costello, Carlos Marcello, Santo Trafficante, Stefano Magaddino, just to name a few.....slimshady_007 wrote:Though it’s not too common, some lcn bosses manage to die free men (and not in an assassination) despite investigations by the federal government. Re: Bosses who beat the feds
I believe Marcello did do some time during the 80s.
In the more modern era some of the smaller city Bosses like Joe Todaro Sr, Michael Genovese (Pittsburgh), Vincent LoScalzo (Tampa), James Lanza (San Francisco) and Peter Balistrieri (Milwaukee) avoided prison while boss. Did John LaRocca of Pittsburgh and Russell Bufalino ever get indicted while Boss? I forgot.

Not sure about LaRocca, but Bufalino served several years for extortion in the 70s I think, and then got a 10-year sentence in the 80s for conspiring to kill the witness that had turned him in for extortion.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:01 pm Did John LaRocca of Pittsburgh and Russell Bufalino ever get indicted while Boss? I’m mainly discussing bosses who were still holding onto their position as boss when they died.Lupara wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 5:54 pmObviously Joe Bonanno, Joseph Profaci, Paul Ricca and Tony Accardo, Frank Costello, Carlos Marcello, Santo Trafficante, Stefano Magaddino, just to name a few.....slimshady_007 wrote:Though it’s not too common, some lcn bosses manage to die free men (and not in an assassination) despite investigations by the federal government. Don't forget Joe Todaro, Jr., who's been succesfully evading LE scrutiny by using his La Nova Pizzeria chain as a front for one the nation's most powerful crime syndicates. You yourself have predicted there won't be an indictment made against him so he can be added to the list of most succesful bosses ever.Pogo The Clown wrote:I believe Marcello did do some time during the 80s.

Re: Bosses who beat the feds
Costello and Ricca both did time while they were boss. Did Gambino, Luchese, Gagliano or Profaci ever do time before they were boss, oh Mangano too
Re: Bosses who beat the feds
Philip Lombardo or was he the same person as Russel Bufalino.

In the book "Mafia summit" by Gil Reavill, there is Gambino's arrest record he had when he was arrested at Apalachin in 1957:
I think I read Lucchese only did some time for car theft when he was young.Arrests (FBI #334450, PD NYC #B 128760, NY DCI #467576X)
11/13/31: Suspicion of burglary, Lawrence, MA, case dismissed.
10/9/34: Grand larceny, Brockton, MA, nolle prossed, made restitution of $1,000.
6/17/37: Violation Internal Revenue Act (operation of still) Philadelphia, PA, twenty-two months, Lewisburg (PA) Federal Penitentiary.
Gagliano was sentenced to 15 months for tax evasion in 1932, according to the book "The origin of organized crime in America. The New York City Mafia, 1891-1931" by David Critchley

Re: Bosses who beat the feds
And yes I'm just joking about Lombardo and Bufalino being the same person, since Bufalino was said by a CI to be boss of the Genoveses in 1975

About Mangano: there is a mugshot of him with a prison number on Wikipedia and some other sites; this means he was arrested at least once, but was he ever convicted?
