Cali, from all accounts, was extremely careful and while not as powerful and famous as JFK, he was in a leadership role and wielded immense power and respect—in the US and abroad. Last year they released all the JFK files and it turns out Oswald acted alone. If the mafia wanted Cali dead, they would not do I this way.

Good points. But then why would Cali have gone out to meet him like he knew the guy? And what about that text Comello wrote about being on the run? The news made it seem like he texted that to the niece.

Nah they actually held back several hundred documents which are now slated for release in 2021. They released 19,000 pages worth of docs last year but over 15,000 of them had heavy redactions.

Yeah those are good questions. There’s a chance that his lawyer sees this story as his best hope for an insanity plea, and it’s all BS. But the Times article seem to imply there was some real meat on the bone with the Deep State theory based on Comello’s Internet history and what not.

This part of the Times article should have settled things:

"Driven by that obsession, Mr. Gottlieb said, Mr. Comello began early this year to attempt citizen’s arrests of people he believed to be associated with the deep state. In February, Mr. Comello twice tried to conduct his own arrest of Mayor Bill de Blasio, including one instance in which he showed up at Gracie Mansion, the mayoral home in Manhattan.

Not long after that incident, Mr. Comello sought the help of United States marshals at Federal District Court in Manhattan, and asked that they help him to arrest two California Democrats, Representatives Maxine Waters and Adam Schiff, both of whom he believed were in the vicinity. He was rebuffed.

Both incidents were confirmed by law enforcement officials."

Someone in Cali’s position had to wake up everyday with his head on a swivel, so to speak. I’m sure if we found out some of the lengths he went to in order to stay off the radar, it would blow our mind. But I guess nothing prepares you for the potential of a nut job that thinks someone in the Gambino administration is working with Democrats and the Intelligence Community to overthrow the president. The New York Times reporting on this story is pretty solid and I definitely believe their version of events. But it would not strike me as odd if other high ranking guys, especially the old timers, think it’s too crazy to be right.

I don't even see how anyone could find any connection between Gambino's and the rest. Then again, I once knew a guy who covered over his cell phone camera with tape because he thought the government was spying on him.

Well Ed Snowden proved your buddy was not too far off. Just because you you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Besides that the camera on the front is useless. I wouldn't be suprised at the slightest that some bored intelligence agents are checking out random people's lives just for fun as is shown in the Snowden movie.

Just my 2 cents.

Francesco went out to speak with Comello because he saw a young kid, compared to himself, and wanted to see what the accident and any damage (if any) to his (Cali's) vehicle was all about. Cali probably let his guard down because incidents such as what ended up happening to him in front of his own house just did not happen in that neighborhood and were not common place, in fact they are unheard of. He may have believed it to be just how it was presented to him at the time. A young kid hit his car and wanted to show him.

Although I could be way out in left field here, but because Cali knew very well the ways of the world within which he existed he must have known the pretext of a fake accident and the kid drawing him out and away from the house is the stuff of a textbook assassination scenario, or at least could be.

But again Cali must have felt relaxed enough (at least from the point of the front door and off the front porch or stoop and then down into the street) to temporarily (and unfortunately) suspend any preconceived notion or suspicion, for whatever reason. I would speculate further that by the time Francesco realized the situation was not what he believed it to be and that he was in fact in trouble that it was already too late at that point.

Francesco's only chance in this case appears to be for him to have been armed from the time he stepped out of the house which would have permitted him to possibly either counter the attack or strike first the moment he realized the kid was armed and intended to use it on him. I am sure all of this took place while all of his (Cali's) instinctual alarm bells were sounding off down in the street. The only thing about the alarm bells is at that point it was too late and he had no way to defend himself which I am sure the realization of increased the intensity of the state of panic and the instinct for survival. He dropped and attempted to roll under his own SUV, but he was already full of holes by then.

I read Snakes post that mentions the mental and emotional state of Comello and how the attorney is going to play that up in court.

What I don't understand is if this kid was so screwed up (going around with handcuffs to make a citizens arrest on politicians, etc.). Even though this kid is 30 years old where were the other "sane" adults (his parents) he lived with during all of this? If this guy is a fraction off the wall as the lawyer is going to portray him to be then it obviously could not have gone unnoticed by other people, especially people he lived with and knew him intimately.

Why did they not do anything about it let alone knowingly allow him to have a firearm if they knew or suspected he was that messed up and unstable? It seems no one tried to have an intervention with this guy. Like, Anthony go get help or we will pay for counseling, therapy or whatever. Look at what they are paying now. They got a good (high priced) lawyer, right? It appears nobody ever put any conditions or constraints on this guy either. Like, Anthony if you want to live here you can not own or have a firearm. When you no longer live here whatever you do then is your business, until then no guns.

It wouldn't surprise me if Comellos' lawyer has a spy on this board who reads (and perhaps copies) all of this crap on here and touches on (or contrives a counter to) all of the points made on this forum and weaves it into his bullshit defense.

Comello is scheduled to appear in court again (or at least his lawyer is) on Tuesday, August 13.

Forget the 2 cents, I just dropped a dime.

Trump, QAnon and Deep State: Lawyer details ‘delusional obsession’ of mob-boss murder suspect

Updated 10:49 AM; Today 10:42 AM
By Irene Spezzamonte | ispezzamonte@siadvance.com

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Eltingville man accused of gunning down the boss of the Gambino crime family in March developed a “delusional obsession” with right-wing conspiracy theories and thought he was performing a citizen’s arrest on a member of the “Deep State” while acting with the “protection of President Trump himself,” according to a blockbuster court filing by his lawyer.

Anthony Comello, 24, went to Francesco (Franky Boy) Cali’s Hilltop Terrace house on March 13 to conduct a citizen’s arrest because he considered the 53-year-old mob boss a man with “significant status in a worldwide criminal cabal bent on the destruction of American values and the American way of life,” but he had no intention of killing him, according to the motion.

Comello backed his vehicle into Cali’s car, and as Comello was inspecting the damage, Cali exited his residence, the two men shook hands and briefly talked, lawyer Robert Gottlieb wrote.

“[Comello] had brought handcuffs with him and planned to restrain Cali. After a heated exchange, Cali made a furtive action with his hand and Comello became afraid for his life,” the motion reads. “He reached into his vehicle, withdrew his gun and shot Cali in self-defense.”

After the fatal shooting, Comello sent a text stating, “I’m on the run, my family is marked,” according to a statement by prosecutors last month in state Supreme Court, St. George.

Comello was used to bringing a firearm with him because he later said he thought “the world is a dangerous place,” the defense motion claims.

MENTAL HEALTH DEFENSE

The 24-year-old justified his actions based on his perceived involvement in the QAnon group – a right-wing conspiracy-theory organization in which he believed to have a fundamental role: Protecting Trump, according to the motion.

“Comello’s support for QAnon went beyond mere participation in a radical political organization,” the motion explains. “It evolved into a delusional obsession.”

QAnon follows the postings of an individual or group of individuals who write using the pseudonym “Q,” the filing explains. The group’s mission is to protect Western civilization and American values from an international criminal conspiracy. This global cabal is referred to as “the Deep State.”

The March incident was not the first time Comello tried to conduct a citizen arrest.

In February 2019, he tried to arrest Mayor Bill de Blasio at Gracie Mansion for what Comello believed was election fraud. Shortly after, Comello tried to arrest Maxine Waters and Adam Schiff, both California congressional representatives.

Comello was not arrested in either case, according to his lawyer.

“As part of his delusion, the defendant believed that he had been given secret knowledge about the Deep State, and that Q was communicating directly with him so that the defendant could play a grand role in the conflict to save the American way of life,” the filing maintains. “Because of his self-perceived status in QAnon, Mr. Comello became certain that he was enjoying the protection of President Trump himself, and that he had the president’s full support.”

About four months after Cali’s murder, Comello still does not think killing him was wrong, his lawyer wrote in the motion.

“He believes that he did his patriotic duty to defend both himself as well as the United States from a dangerous criminal and therefore killing Cali was actually morally right under the circumstances,” according to the motion.

LAWYER SAYS HE HAS NOT SEEN ‘CRITICAL’ EVIDENCE

In the motion, Gottlieb is also asking the district attorney’s office to share evidence considered “critical” to the case and that, despite multiple attempts, the defense team has still not seen.

“They have turned over certain evidence, but critical evidence has been withheld and as we indicate they are refusing to turn over,” Gottlieb told the Advance.

Gottlieb is requesting District Attorney Michael E. McMahon to turn over the evidence found in Comello’s residences, vehicle and property.

“We are simply asking under the discovery rules that we be told what they found,” said Gottlieb.

The district attorney’s office declined to comment on the filing.

Comello is due back in court on Aug. 13.

I think Comello is a crazy, but the line of defense they are giving is ridiculous. He knew he was going for Cali and who Cali was, and I don't think some right wing organization he found online told him to go do it, or that he believed that they did. Just say he's crazy and take a plea.
