But the 116th crew has had at least a half dozen members become boss or acting boss of the Genovese family. It's essentially been the default leader of the most powerful family in the U.S. over the years.
Agreed. Not to mention the longevity since we're talking about historically.

i know the guys from that crew were entrenched in labor racketeering, quasi legit business and basically the administration aspect of sports booking. the all stars of those things. i picture them as older executive types

have they been known for any knucklehead street guys? like personal loansharks, drugs, robberies, etc...? no, right?

its crazy to contrast a group like that with other groups in the same family who were strong in their own right...crews like alan longos who were pulling scams and strong arm robberies

maybe thats another reason why the genovese did so well. putting the birds of a feather all in the same place

thoughts?
You're correct, their main rackets have traditionally been labor racketeering and legitimate businesses. Also gambling, including numbers back in the day. Patty Falcetti was charged with loansharking and Sal Larca was charged with marijuana trafficking .
thanks. I didnt realize Falcetti and Larca were of that crew, I was under the impression they were a totally separate group (similar location base) with Falcetti as the capo. damn

There is not really such thing as a strongest crew because each crew is backed by a family and they measure “strength” by money so you coukd go by how much a crew brings in. Killers are at the family’s desposal

Barney’s crew easily is the most powerful crew in lcn. They’ve been around forever and have had a bunch of names in the crew.

I have to agree with the original responses to this. Crews Are also modified - breaking them up or merging with other crews so its difficult to say.

Anyone can talk about anything here, correct? I don’t mind this post, there’s no reason to team up on someone for it. You can post what you want, I just wish moderators would give you your own section, it’s very confusing. Some stuff I find interesting but it’s all over the place and forget which ones I read. You seem like a good guy and extremely knowledgeable, which is great here. I’m new to posting but have been here a while, have a good day

Another crew that comes to mind is the Don Peppe crew which was in control at times of Springfield and was also heavily connected to Hollywood, The Amalgamated transit union, The waterfront...Ciro Perrone, Spike bornstein, Mike Deluca, Matty the Horse, Conrad and many more ! Theres alotta cases/Crews with the Westside we can make a big case for . I'm not just saying that because of all the, This is the "IVEY LEAGUE BS" Of Organized crime, Mob affairs etc. Just truth and fact

I'd go with the Giuseppe Traina crew, among others mentioned. Traina represented the longest tenured boss of bosses and continued to be one of the more influential figures in mafia politics inside NYC and around the country for decades afterward. His crew was reportedly large, had strong early ties to Sicily, and according to Michael DiLeonardo was one of oldest active crews in NYC. Traina was also president of Empire Yeast, which in its day was a significant "legitimate" enterprise and his soldiers had influence in labor unions, etc.

Maybe Carlo gambinos crew before he was admin . Think the question should be apart from 116th who was strongest.
