Re: Italian mafia boss Rocco Morabito escapes from prison in Uruguay
Italian mob boss Rocco Morabito, known as the “Cocaine King of Milan," escaped from a Uruguayan prison while awaiting extradition to Italy, the interior ministry said.
Morabito is allegedly the head of the 'Ndrangheta crime gang and has been wanted in Italy since 1995. He was arrested in Uruguay in 2017 in the capital, Montevideo, but he had been living in a nearby resort town for over a decade under a false name.
The 'Ndrangheta mafia is suspected to control roughly 80% of Europe’s cocaine trade from its operations in southern Italy.
Morabito and three other inmamtes escaped Sunday and are on the run in South America.
"It is disconcerting and serious that a criminal like Rocco Morabito, head of the 'Ndrangheta, has managed to escape from a prison in Uruguay while waiting to be extradited to Italy," Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said in a brief statement.
He added he would “keep hunting Morabito, wherever he is, to put him in jail as he deserves”.
Morabito was being extradited for prior convictions for links to organized crime and drug trafficking that were issued in absentia.

Sorry to say it.... But I don't think there's much interest in ndrangheta on here.... Which is a little baffling IMO...
There have been 3 or 4 huge developments the last few months like Operation Pollina.... Didn't even make the News from Italy section.... No one pays attention

Re: Italian mafia boss Rocco Morabito escapes from prison in Uruguay
I dont think there isn't any interest it's just that many of us aren't as informed on them and so a back and forth dialogue on this topic is difficult to start. I say keep posting them and we will all learn more. Thanks.

Couldn't agree more. The most powerful organized crime group in the world with cells everywhere and nobody is interested...they'd rather pay attention to the Mickey Mouse Mafia in the U.S that is limping along at bestCabriniGreen wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 4:21 am Sorry to say it.... There are some of us who follow the guys across the pond. But yes, most interest is in the local guys. Probably the most interest you'll see in the Ndrangheta or Sicilian Mafia on this board is when there's a bust connected to the NY families.JCB1977 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 12:08 pmCouldn't agree more. As I am European, the subject interests me. There is more going on in Italy with the Ndrangheta than with LCN in the USA. So you can continue to post this kind of article that fits me perfectly. Unfortunately I am not at all expert in Ndrang ', that's why I do not answer necessarily, but I read it with interest.

I posted an article not too long ago about the rise of the Piscopisani clan, and how they were trying to oust one of the MOST powerful clans, the Mancusos.Fughedaboutit wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 5:07 pm I follow it loosely which is how I came upon this. DIdn't know nobody was interested lol
They had backing from the Commisos, Aquino's, and several other families. This was an indication to me that the Calabrian clans STILL ultimately answer to the mother locales in Calabria.
Another recent bust showed that the Calabrian clans organize the Canadian shipments, so as far as I can tell, the Canadian clans still answer to Calabria.
Also, it was the first time I saw a locale broken down. I've never seen it done for any clan in Canada really, not the Commisos, no one.
I cant get a handle on the structure of it.... and I find especially interesting the Gambino connections....
