I used to play football with Willie and he was extremely good with his hands. As a matter of fact, he wasn't even what I would call a decent ball player, but he came to the games for "crowd control" in case anybody got cute.

Willie moved like a cat and hit like a gorilla.

One night at Marty and Lenny's there were these three guys who were halfway around the Lucchese crew from Gramatan Avenue in Mount Vernon. They worked the fucking door at Sue's, so they naturally thought they were wiseguys, Now these guys were COMPLETELY out of fucking line. If it ever got to the table they didn't have a prayer. Plus, my old man and the guy in charge there (the guy who wore the funny hats and went by his initials) were VERY close.

Anyway, Willie BEGS me to just walk up to the biggest one and punch him in the mouth, and he'll take care of the rest. Now, this is almost thirty years ago. But even then, I'm like, forget about it. they're just drunks. I turn around to buy a drink, and by the time I got my change all three of them were fast asleep. I didn't even hear a sound. It was like a drone attack . But to be fair, Marty and Lenny's was a pretty loud joint .

And it's funny you mention football, Bruno. That's how Craig and Willie met. Willie went to Lincoln and Craig went to Roosevelt. They met while playing against each other. Plus, Craig played for the Blue Devils up in Eastchester and Willie had some friends there. Willie was around Vinny Artuso when he was still in high school. But Greg was able to use the relationship between his son and Willie to pry Willie away from Vinny.

I didn't realize that Willie and Craig went that far back. When I talk about him doing "crowd control" this was late 80's-early 90's in the Corner's bar league on Sunday mornings. We had more maniacs show up at those games "just in case" than guys actually playing on the field.
