Joey Merlino Going Back To Prison

From reading about the family post Scarfo you get the feeling that most of them are brokesters. From reading the indictments they don't seem to run any big money operations like NY although a few have come close like the AC Bogota bust and the Delco Nostra bust. So there is still money to be made in their area but it seems that the family's lack of real organization post Scarfo is holding them back from really taping into it. You also don't see the Philly guy's having any stakes in legitimate business like the NY guy's do with the exception of the occasional guy having a bar or something.

It goes back before Scarfo. Scarfo's Atlantic Union connection and Bruno's millions in real estate were the exception rather than the norm in a group of what has always been blue-collar wiseguys. Ciancagliani sells newspapers at a portable stand outside, now he's the acting or under right?

This is what I suspect as well. Merlino has always enjoyed being brazen and though I believe he's a bit more mature now and wont' put himself at too much risk, I don't see him having any reservation when it comes to showing himself around the neighborhood with his old friends.

I agree. He will definitely get back involved in South Philly when he gets out. When you think about it being on parole has been what has kept him out of prison. It has kept him in Florida and insulated him from a lot of people. Without it you know he is going to get back involved (more so than he would otherwise hve been) and open himself up to an indictment.

I always thought part of the motive of living in Florida was to help keep himself out of Philly, away from his buddies. He wouldn't have lasted ten minutes if he had went straight back to Philly, the feds were all over Angelina, Gambino, and Mazzone when they got out. By the time he gets out again, everybody that was with him in the 90s, minus Canalichio, will be out of prison and back in Philly...I really have a hard time seeing him hanging around a restaurant in Florida after the winter is over.

He is like the Scarfos in the sense that he will always see Philly as "his" place.

Feds will hit him some bogus RICO indictment with little evidence...but enough to keep him locked up without bail for 3 yrs while he waits for the trial(like Ligambi etc) then by the time he is at trial they will have another indictment against him. More than likely Nicodemo will flip one he is convicted. He has young children and he is a young guy himself.

No idea. Nicodemo's only hope is to fix the jury. That kid is fucked. The story they came up with as a defense was nutts. He would have been better off hiring the stuttering lawyer from my cousin Vinny. lol His only hope is to flip .
