Gambino member from NYC involved in Falcone bomb?

Post by stubbs »

There's an interesting article in the Telegraph today where a pentito is claiming that the New York Gambinos sent a bomb expert to Sicily to help out in the bombings of Falcone and Borsellino. The article is here.

There's no name, only a description of the American involved. Anyone ever heard of this? How in the world would there be a bomb expert in NY when they never used bombs (except for the Frank DeCicco killing, and that was carried out by the Luccheses)?

Carried out by the Luccheses and the bomb expert himself who was a Genovese associate.
All roads lead to New York.

Maybe they sent a bomb expert, but he was not a member of the Gambino Family.

As reported by an article in "Repubblica" signed by my colleague Salvo Palazzolo, "the foreigner arrived in Palermo in the first months of 1992". The pentito Maurizio Avola, one of the new suspects, had already spoken about it in 1994 at the beginning of his collaboration, after confessing 80 murders.

While stating, then, that he did not know who he was. Recently, however, the ex-Catania killer decided to expand his confession, stating that that "foreigner" was a man of John Gotti, the head of the Gambino family of New York. "He was about 40 years old, brown hair, dark eyes, 1.85 tall, strong build, dressed very elegantly. I met him in Catania, at the home of Aldo Ercolano, who told me: today you met an important person ".

Avola also said that in those days he had brought "a certain amount of explosives and detonators to Termini Imerese". With him, to act as a relay, Marcello D'Agata, his boss, also now under investigation for the massacre.

In the process of appealing for the death of Falcone, we now aim to learn about the relationship between the American and the Capaci blender, Pietro Rampulla from Messina, linked to environments of the subversive right. "Ercolano told me that the stranger had collaborated in the attack," reveals Avola. The aim is to discover the American Cosa Nostra role in the season of the massacres.

On the afternoon of May 23, 1992, one of the (cloned) stragisti phones called a user in Minnesota three times: "00161277746 ***", from 15:17 to 15:43 (the bomb will burst at 17:56). The investigations say that it would have been Antonino Gioè (dead suicide in prison) to call. But who was on the other side of the phone?

Surprised anyone from here signed off on participating in the bombing given that (unlike Sicily) they don't go after law enforcement.

Only thing that makes sense to me is the Sicilians didn’t actually need any help, but the Binos sent someone anyway as a show of solidarity to the Corleonesi, since they had been rivals before the Palermo families lost their power and control over the Sicilian Commission.

Sorta like when John Gambino had one of the Inzerillos killed in New Jersey in the early 80s for Toto Riina. Even though Riina was wiping out Gambino’s allies in Palermo, Gambino saw the writing on the wall and knew he needed Riina on his side to keep sending them all of that Sicilian heroin.

I don't think this is true , they had their own experts , mafia just did dirty part of the job , he was killed by corrupted politicians, secret services and masonic lodges. They have their own experts.

Don't see it with Gravano flipping in 1991 and Gotti being convicted in 1992 that close to the bombing. The thought of more rats would have made the Gambino's the worst possible choice for the corleonesi - in that time frame.
