They did have around 50 made members during their peak in the 40s and 50s, but they answered to the Chicago family.

The Marcello, Trafficante and Bufalino families were smaller than LA but more influential, that says something.

LA answered to the Gagliano/Lucchese family, who represented them on the Commission. Chicago took more influence later as they expanded their west coast interests though I don't know that they ever officially represented them.

On what source do you base that? I do remember an old chart of the US families that stated this.

But what about the phrase "everything west of Chicago belongs to Chicago"? Does that not have any merit?

The fact that Fratianno and Roselli could transfer between the two families (even back and forth) confirms they maintained close relations, not to mention the Hollywood extortion case going back to the 1930s.

Frattiano talked about it. Frank Bompensiero may have mentioned it as well. LA Boss Jack Dragna was related (a cousin I believe) of Tommy Lucchese. Dragna may have even been an early Morello family member.

Ah yeah he was also from Corleone, then it makes sense.

I do believe this was probably only the case during this relationship and when the Five Families were also heavily involved in Vegas. Later on Chicago probably took over as representative, unless you can prove me wrong on that too.

Chicago didn't represent everyone west of the Mississippi but those families generally couldn't do anything that would interfere with Outfit interests, either. Similar to the east coast and the Five Families (particularly the Genovese and Gambinos). Chicago had a much larger influence in Milwaukee and St. Louis because they were the closest to their sphere of influence.

I don't believe Lucchese and Dragna were cousins unless it was distantly through marriage, though Lucchese's daughter (the same one that would marry Tommy Gambino) was the maid of honor in Dragna's daughter's wedding. Lucchese was from an area near Palermo and Dragna was from Corleone so likely no blood relation. Dragna was close to the Gaglianos and other Morello/Reina members from Corleone when he lived in NYC and told Fratianno he was made in 1914, the same year he returned from Corleone. He was either made in Corleone right before he left or into the Morello/Reina family when he returned. No doubt that's the reason for the Gagliano/Lucchese family repping LA.

Other sources aside from Fratianno and Bompensiero have confirmed the Luccheses represented LA on the Commission, including at least one of the San Jose informants and others elsewhere. As an example of the relationship in practice, Bompensiero discussed how when Dragna/Bompensiero suspected Willie Moretti was an informant, they went to Tommy Lucchese because he was their Commission representative and he could make a formal inquiry.

Jack Dragna's great grandson, J. Michael Niotta, speaking at the Mob Museum in Vegas.

He has a book out about bootlegging in LA during Prohibition called The Los Angeles Sugar Ring. He's supposedly working on a Dragna biography. Anyone have any opinions on him? Anyone read his book?

Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

Don't forget Julius Nasso, the Gambino associate/Hollywood producer who was involved in the extortion of Steven Seagal.

I would VASTLY prefer living in Cleveland to any big city in California. VASTLY.
My problem is I hate everybody.
