Just swung by Petey Red’s club, it’s definitely still active.
Awesome.
Photos good sir?
There was an old guy in a red shirt eyeballing me as I walked by, so I waited a bit and walked past with my phone to my ear. I was walking too fast to get a good shot, but I'll return to the scene of the crime for round two.
I'd imagine the fastest way to meet wiseguys anywhere is to start a sports book and loansharking operation. You'll probably meet a few in a matter of hours.
Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”
Just make a reservation for Park Side in Corona, Tony Federici is supposed to be there every night working the place. Plus the food is said to be excellent. He'll even greet you and seat you.

what do your travel companions think of you hunting down wiseguys ?
Why dont you walk in there and ask them how to join ? your from new Zealand and want to hang with some real new Yorkers , hell they might even buy you a beer. worst case they tell you to kick rocks

Not a bad idea, although it would be pretty suspicious for a tourist to walk into a nondescript "members only" place like Petey Red's social club.

In 1993 my girlfriend walked into the Ravenite and asked if they were open. Someone yelled "it's PRIVATE" and she played dumb. Actually she was dumb but that's another story.

Wow . Iimagine they got plenty of mob-seeking tourists by that point though.
Just saw this thread today and read the whole thing. As someone who lives in NYC and has been to most of these places, I am cracking up about you dragging your girlfriend to them trying to be inconspicuous. LOL. Have a great vacation.
And as everyone said, if you go to Parkside on a Friday or Saturday you will see Tough Tony

I’d like to imagine the old guy was reading this thread, then telling his crew to “be on the lookout for any suspicious tourists walkin around here with a New Zeland accent”... then one of em replying, “Where’s that? Somewheres in Jersey?”
