Faction is another word for 'click", the problem is people automatically assume it to mean an adversary, like they are ready to go to war any minute.
It really just means click.....
It really just means click.....

Re: Speculating who the new Gambino underboss will be
Which brings me to a question:
What exactly does Sicilian faction mean?
Is it identifiable by a specific neighborhood, or territory? A specific headquarters? A particular group of men, or does it refer to specific family operations and or contacts?
Felices info had the faction at 8 members, this was the 80s.... People were shocked, like expecting it to be a huge army...
To me its ALWAYS been about thier level of connections and just plain wealth...
There are reports Cali imported recruits, impossible to know for sure.....
Did Gene and Nick Corrozzo get along? I heard he and John were rivals....

Re: Speculating who the new Gambino underboss will be
Seems like Nick and his guys were about as powerful in the family as the Gotti's (again assuming they are factions, or cliques*) as soon as John went away through to his own arrest then JoJo replaced him or was always running the family with him, so the rivalry if there even was one likely only lasted when John was on the street. Should read the Mikey Scars interviews here again when i've got time because i remember him talking about the Corozzo's but i can't recall specifics other than Nicky Corozzo was not going to take over the family, can't remember (or it might not have been clear) if he was meaning he didn't have the clout to do so or if he wasn't interested. I'd imagine the latter because he was largely running the family along with Junior and Peter during the 90s anyway.
Re: Speculating who the new Gambino underboss will be
It seems like LE and Capeci were getting info about the family starting about 10 years ago. What comes to my mind is how quickly they found out about Cefalu and Cali's promotions. Even with that they haven't been indicted for anything since they have been running the family. I think the Gambinos were probably surprised that news came out so quickly, especially because I believe they were more or less surprise appointments. With Mannino already being rumoured to be administration and it looks like probably considered the front runner to replace Cali as underboss, my opinion is that it makes it a toss up that he gets or wants the position right now.

Scars made it clear that wasn't true about Nick becoming official boss.Camo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 6:07 am Seems like Nick and his guys were about as powerful in the family as the Gotti's (again assuming they are factions, or cliques*) as soon as John went away through to his own arrest then JoJo replaced him or was always running the family with him, so the rivalry if there even was one likely only lasted when John was on the street. Re: Speculating who the new Gambino underboss will be
CC and I had this exact conversation the other day about a completely different subject (different Italian ethnicities, i.e. Sicilian, Calabrian, etc.) but the same point stands: there is far more cooperation within families and between different families than there is conflict. There are always factions, but more often than not it is like one department of a corporation who doesn't like another department. I worked in the warehouse of a company many years ago and everyone who worked in the warehouse "despised" those in the company who worked in the sales office. All this "rivalry" really amounted to was that the different departments always voted for their own people in the company's yearly Halloween costume contest.Camo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 5:23 amGreat post. I've always felt this was the most likely situation with the unknown third member on the Admin if there is one. Have always been a bit skeptical that it was Mannino since it'd seem like all three positions where held by one area of the Family, although Cali's connections to D'amico could be that i suppose. I remember Felice speculating that Lenny DiMaria could be Consig at one point because he was at that party, personally something like that would make more sense to me with his close connections to the Corozzo's. Of course we'll just have to hope something comes out to clear this up.B. wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 3:38 pmMy take on him, which is always open to revision, is that he was somewhat of a halfway point between a couple of the dominant factions at the time which is why he was seen as a good fit for consigliere. Though Vernace came up around Ruggiano/Corozzos, mingled with the Gotti faction, and was not a true "zip", he had a Sicilian background and was close to the Gambino and Conte/Cefalu crews. If the family was trying to find a common denominator between leading factions, he seemed to be it.
Jackie D'Amico was similar in that he had been captain over both an old Sicilian-American crew in addition to the 18th avenue "zip" crew while Gambino was away, but was close to the Gotti faction. It's not surprising to me that D'Amico and Vernace were family leaders during these periods.
Should mention i remember Pogo and a few others saying that we think of families as a group of rival factions a bit too much when that's not always the case, and even if it was at one point relationships change these guys want to make money above all else so that stuff does get put to side at times. So we may be looking at the Gambino's in the wrong way. Anyway, this thread is great, should check the FBI Files section out more i always forget it's there, crazy that this info was sitting there for months undiscussed.
The mafia is different and especially in the past sometimes this meant violence but when you think about how much money, how many egos, and how persistent the threat of violence is, you see that the mafia has been much more successful at maintaining peace and non-violence than they're often given credit for, at least among the members and leadership.
For DiMaria, one thing DiLeonardo has said in interviews is that it was DiMaria and Nick Corozzo who pushed for John Gambino to be re-promoted to captain of his crew in prison after he had been demoted by John Gotti. It wouldn't be a surprise if DiMaria was at the dinner Felice posted because of this ongoing support/friendship.

Its not his brother
"if he's such A sports wizard , whys he tending bar ?" Nicky Scarfo
Re: Speculating who the new Gambino underboss will be
His cousin Dominick Cefalu would be a good guess. I do believe he has a made brother too.
Re: Speculating who the new Gambino underboss will be
They would probably have an acting seeing this is unexpected. Juliano or Gurino from that panel could be good guesses, if that panel still exists and they are still on it. DiMaria orJo Jo Corazzo would be a couple others

That was a different Juliano. It was originally thought to be Sonny but it was in fact his brother Richie.
