I don't really understand the argument that it couldn't be a mob but because it was done outside his home. Wasn't Phil Testa blown up at his home? It could have been someone outside the mob, but I don't think the fact that it was at his home with the family inside precludes it from being a mob hit.

There have been historic mob murders at homes before. Angelo Bruno and Phil Testa come to mind. Sam Giancana was even killed inside his home. I am not saying it was a mob hit, but they have been done in this fashion before.

I think it's mostly an unwritten rule, but if they can only get someone at his home they won't shy away from it.
