Frank Cali shot dead

Re: Frank cali shot dead
Omerta is dead in todays' day and age. Someone will start chirping. The streets are watching!
Re: Frank cali shot dead
I highly doubt he would be hit over one stupid shipment. That makes no sense. You’d hit an associate over a screw up, but not a boss who has the money and connections to fix the problem.
If he was hit over screwing up drug deals, it would be multiple issues over years where he repeatedly wasnt correcting the mistake.
And that bust was recent. A hit on a boss like this in front of his own home would take weeks and weeks to prepare, do servailance, track a routine, come up with alibis, etc. Not gonna happen in three days. Whoever did this may have been waiting for 5-10 years to make their move.
And Gene Gotti theory seems insane to me. He probably can’t figure out how to use a cell phone or what the hell the internet is after being away.... and all the sudden he’s gonna be able to recruit enough supporters to take out a boss and go against the Sicilians in Bensonhurst after six months? And that they’d just fall in line behind him and let him make the move? Not to mention the other families. When John did it he had been on the streets for so long he had allies who supported him in other families. Like some of yall think he came out of jail with an army behind him, guns blazing like Galante.

A mentally ill person could of killed him, either knowing who he was or at random
Re: Frank cali shot dead
Like Cabrini said once, a lot of people in other Italian groups seemed to be going through Cali and the Gambinos for supply. Like the Binos have their connections in Latin America giving coke to them at a super low price directly from Colombia or Venezuela or wherever.
So maybe Cali had gotten too powerful internationally and someone wanted that spot. The Ndrangheta making a move against the Sicilians, further consolidating their control. Not that they could run the Binos, but to send a message that they answer to no one, that NY has to fall in line in the international drug trade behind the Calabrians. We know the Binos have been working with the Ndrangheta, so something could’ve soured in the relationship there.
But with the Sicilians, nothing is ever simple or clean. It may have been an internal Sicilian beef and with John Gambino out of the way someone else wanted that spot. I doubt the request came from Sicily, they seem too weak and disorganized. In the 80’s yeah, but not these days. If anything, I could see the order coming from Calabria, but not Sicily.

Re: Frank cali shot dead
Also, the most ironic thing that could come from this hit is if the spotlight and ongoing media coverage leads to an increased interest from the Feds and NYPD to look into the mafia. Even more ironic if they bring back those “mafia squads” that had been closed/consolidated.
The mafia has been out of the headlines and able to quietly rebuild, but if this story stays in the news long enough law enforcement may be forced to wake up.

there is no way calabrians are behind, the order came from sicily or another ny family, or it's within the gambino'sstubbs wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:26 pm But with the Sicilians, nothing is ever simple or clean. Re: RE: Re: Frank cali shot dead
He might be in power for a while but just as with his brother John the other families will put out a contract on him if he did this without their approval. That would be their obligation according to the rules, unless there is no more Commission of sorts and each family is now on its own. Then again, this murder will then open the doors for future power plays by any opportunistic mobster which will lead to chaos. And even if nobody within the family is going to respond, there will probably be people in Sicily who want someone to answer for it since Cali was very popular over there.Camo wrote:If it's Gene he lives up to his family name as a moron. There's no way this ends with him back in power and if it somehow does he'll likely be spending the rest of his life in jail within a few years. Would be insane if it was and he gets away with it but i can't see it.
I bet Bellomo really doesn't want to have this headache and he's now in a similar position as his old mentor was once and as the most senior boss has to set an example.

You make some good points but this whole Calabrian angle was also used when the Rizzutos were killed and that turned out to be only partly true at best and mostly untrue. The Calabrians, as powerful as they are in the drug trade, are not going to attack the other Mafia organizations. They all want to maintain good business relationships with each other, respect the rules and traditions, and stick to their own affairs.stubbs wrote:Like Cabrini said once, a lot of people in other Italian groups seemed to be going through Cali and the Gambinos for supply. When has there ever been an all out war between different Mafias? All of the conflicts have been internal with other criminal organizations only involved in the business end.
Re: Frank cali shot dead
Yeah, the Calabrians are in a very good position and have been for a while. Don't see why they'd want to risk that by provoking a war with other mafia groups, the Sicilians aren't what they were in the 80s as mentioned but there's no way you'd want to go to war with them with all the trouble that brings.
Re: Frank cali shot dead
Agreed. Conflicts between separate families/organizations very rare and with non-Mafia groups even more rare.
All roads lead to New York.

Re: RE: Re: Frank cali shot dead
this, the ndrangheta is interested in moving the largest amount of coke and just sell it to other groups, ti wouldn't put the nose in lcn things or sicilian things, in fact in the canadian war they are not involved if not peripherally at most
the calabrians (arcadi, violi, cotroni jr. etc.) involved are not even ndrangheta members but lcn
Re: RE: Re: Frank cali shot dead
You’re right, that makes sense. I find it hard to believe the order came from Sicily, so maybe it is internal after all.Lupara wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:01 pmYou make some good points but this whole Calabrian angle was also used when the Rizzutos were killed and that turned out to be only partly true at best and mostly untrue. Dont make the mistake of confusing them with either the Siderno group, OR the clans from the Gionica group...

it's probably internal, but if the order comes from outside being cali sicilian and strongly linked with sicilian mafia its sicily, sicilians in canada or another ny family

Lumping them all together as one group is not accurate...
