Did a secret offer to the mob avenge this DEA agent’s death?

When a DEA agent was gunned down in a hail of mob bullets on a desolate Staten Island street in 1989, the trail of clues soon turned ice cold and left his bosses desperate for answers. That set the stage for an extraordinary encounter. The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York office, hat in hand, knocked on the front door of Gambino Crime Family boss John Gotti, and asked for help.

Interesting story. It brings up a question:
How is it that just about every mob murder or
planned murder (e.g. Bobby Manna; or the guys who went
to Arizona to case Sammy Gravano) get busted and
in Canada dozens and dozens of mob murders happen
with only a handful of arrests? It is confounding.

More snitches/informants in the US and resources available for LE.

A weaker group of people getting accepted into Mafia groups. The 2 men sent to Arizona to kill Gravano were a joke and afraid to do anything after one lobbied to do it for the Gambinos. Many talk way too much and get caught on wiretaps or tell an informant something they think will be kept confidential.

Gus Farace was never going to get too deep into the Mafia as his friends were due to his unstable natures and his being possible bisexual. I once spoke to a person who did time with him, this took place when Farace was on the run for killing Hatcher. The guy was shocked that Farace was in for killing a guy after forcing him to perform oral sex. The person I spoke to said farce would never have been allowed to hang out with the crew he fell in with in prison if they had known. All they knew was that he was in for robbery, not the gay aspect of his crime. If he had started getting closer to Mafia members and they checked up on him, he would have been chased. He killed Hatcher for no good reason, as he did to his previous victim.

Seems like they are almost bragging about putting the heat on Farace in order to get him killed. Totally understand that they personally might want him dead but he was entitled to the due process and protections of the law, just like anyone else. The system simply can't function otherwise. I'm not a fan of LE throwing the legal process out the window and then bragging about it in a backhanded way. Of course, this article is in the New York Post so I guess what should a person expect.
